antigoth24
i found this simple idea in a knifemaking book i just found and im surprised i hadnt thought of it before! a survival knife with a pipe handle for storage! im sure that wont come as a surprise to many of you but i got excited and started making it on tuesday and this is the result. steel is 5160 and the blade is a little bit ovevr 6 inches long and the handle about 5.5 inches long. thus far ive only done the rough forging and grinding (still finishing the saw teeth). now this was the first time i did anything like saw teeth and i dont have a band saw so i was using an angle grinder so any tips or tricks you guys could offer on that subject would be much appreciated! thanks for looking
BIGGUNDOCTOR
I guess you haven't seen many "survival" knives, as a lot have used the pipe type handle. Buck made one after the first Rambo movie that may still be in production, don't know as I am not a big Buck Knife fan.
walkerironworks84
Wicked looking blade! Is that a shield in the background of the second pic? If it is...sweet
pkrankow
While it is not what I would call pretty or handsome, it does look durable and useful. I hope it finishes well. I was at the local big box store the other day and there was some thermo form-able rubbery plastic for making custom formed grips. Might dress up that pipe some. BIGGUNDOCTOR
Skateboard grip tape would work good too. It is thin, so it won't bulk the grip any. My friend uses it on his duty pistol.
