Forging an Iron rose.

Recommended Posts

This Saturday, Fred Crist demonstrated for the Old Dominion Blacksmith Guild. The meet was held at David Tucciarone's shop.

Contemporary art and design development were the main theme of the demonstration. There was quite a bit of thought provoking material presented, but I confess much of it was a little high brow for my rather pedestrian mind. The main idea I took away from the day, was that the project doesn't start at the anvil, it starts at the drawing board, and from there, through the progression of steps, develops into a final project. As Fred himself is going to write up an article on it, I won't go into all that was shown. However, I did want to comment on how fascinating it was to watch him take a solid bar and forge a rose. I didn't remember to take my camera, but I'm sure there'll be some posted in the near future.
