FredW
Does anyone know where I can find phosphoric acid? I would like to try my hand at Parkerizing. Thanks for the help, Fred
MattBower
It's not hard to order online, but I never had much luck finding it locally. Some folks say they've found it in the paint section of Lowe's and Home Depot, but the stuff I've seen usually has other ingredients besides the phosphoric. There's a Behr Concrete Rust remover that's half phosphoric acid, but I don't know what the other half is. (It could just be water.) Naval Jelly is mostly phosphoric acid, but there's other stuff in there, too. In your shoes I'd probably order it. Or just buy a parkerizing kit from Brownells and be done with it! :)
FredW
Buying the kit kinda takes the fun out of it for me. And thought maybe I could do a decent enough job on materials I already have and be much cheaper than the kit. Thanks I will probably end up buying the kit from Brownells but wanted to check this route first. Fred
Dragons lair
Better to lose a little fun than to crap it up. Worked for a gun shop yrs ago. Screw up your own is bad enough. Screw up a clients is a disaster. Be Carefull. Ken
MattBower
I completely understand. Mad science is much more fun than the easy way. But I usually find that it's not much cheaper in the end, if that's a consideration. And on occasion it turns out to be much more expensive. thingmaker3
There is a product called "Ospho" available at most hardware stores. It is phosphoric acid with some wetting agents.
MattBower
I've used Ospho, actually. Wasn't quite sure what the other ingredients were there for.
FredW
Thanks for the help guys, I think I will try to find some Ospho. I think Lowes carries it. I have heard the name. Fred
blackravenforge
i know that this is an old thread, but i thought i would comment anyway. You can get Phosphoric acid at most industrial kitchen supply places. it's used to clean lime and calcium from dish machines.
