I Forge Iron

Awning

Perhaps they are thinking, "French Quarter" in New Orleans or something like that. For example when Googling on "French Quarter ironwork" one of the images that came up was: French Quarter Ironwork Balcony on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

So the real challenge is to find out exactly what they want, and especially what type of cover for the "awning" they have in mind, cloth or wood. If they have no clue what they want then you might propose a tasteful hand-forged structure in the style of the French Quarter with a waterproof cloth roof of a color to compliment whatever their building is painted.

My "tip" would be to do some sketches and review them with the client because an awning can take so many forms, and the details can be so varied, you need to know what they really want.

Good luck. This is a very exiting project. I personally like the French art deco style.
