wolfshieldrx
The Appalachian Blacksmith Association has its Fall Conference this weekend. We auction items members have made as a fundraising activity each year. This evening I made a small hand vise for the auction. It is made from 3/8 inch key stock. The wingnut was forged from 1/4 inch square. I wimped out for the bolt and washer and used a standard store-bought 1/4-20carriage bolt. I was pleased with the outcome. Took about 3 hour to complete, including making 2 drifts to drift the holes for the bolt. Comments welcome and encouraged. bart

bigfootnampa
Here's a link to their schedule of events. Looks like it is October 10-11 at Cedar Lakes Park (near Ripley WV). Fee is $15 or donate a hand-forged item to the auction. Sounds like fun! I wish I lived closer.Calendar of Events / Classes

Brasilikilt
It's the "wow look at this!" stuff that is very inspiring to those of us who are just starting out..... My question is, beyond it's use in c-clamp applications, what other uses is this little vise well suited for??? a jeweler maybe?
dlpierson
Sweet little thing! I'd bid on it if I was at the auction. Second the blueprint request. Maybe some day I'll be good enough to try one.

wolfshieldrx
I am a relative "newbie" myself (only been smithing a little over two years), and a hobby-smith to boot, but would be happy to do a blueprint. I looked in the archives but could not figure out how to submit one. How do I go about submitting a blueprint? thanks...bart
CurlyGeorge
Hey Bart. Get with Glenn. He will help you set one up. I'd like to see that one, also. Great job.
Bentiron1946
Is there any thing done to the bolt head to fix it up some to a more "vintage" look? As it is it looks somewhat out of place otherwise it sure looks nice for the period gunsmith fellows.
wolfshieldrx
I plan to fix the "out of place carriage bolt syndrome". thanks for looking...bartIs there any thing done to the bolt head to fix it up some to a more "vintage" look? David Einhorn
Fastenal.com sells unplated "plain finish" fasteners, including square headed bolts and square plain finish nuts. In case that helps.
