Steve McCarthy
Does anyone have knowledge or an opinion of the air hammers by David Robertson at artistblacksmith.com? I have watched some of his youtube videos and it looks pretty smooth to me but I have zero experence with a power hammer of any kind. A hammer build is in on my radar but haven't decided on tire or air.
divermike
I've used his hammer at his shop, it is very cool, it is an air hammer though, which to me means a lot of hoses and attachments and stuff I know nothing about. I went with a tire hammer and have never regretted it.

Steve McCarthy
Thanks guys for shareing your experience. Krush, did you buy one ready to work or build it from his plans?
Krush
I wanted to buy one from him directly or build it but ended up buying it from a landlord in an unusual circumstance. ended up getting it cheaper than i could have built it, repaired the gibs and the dies which were badly worn and she runs like a charm. i love that hammer, its not a Nazel by any means but an extremely well built home hammer. it is very simple and requires only oil in the air system and the dies tightened now and then. David used a hydraulic cylinder on the one that i have which works great and i like for the fact that the shaft is a little heavier than what an air cylinder's would be for the same size. Spears
Just ordered my set of plans from David a few days ago. I will purchase the materials as I get the money and let you folks know how it goes. It may be sometime, but when I finally get there I will do a test. It looks like a very good tool for most all of the work I do. Spears
Krush
it will run on a 10cfm at 90 psi compressor but if you are able to get a little larger it sure is nice when you work with tool steel or larger stock
Rio Bravo
I'm a complete novice but was able to turn out some decent results on the hammer at David's shop one day. Looking forward to comments on the build process.
