What do you do for Demos?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Well I posted a "Demo Thingy" thread but then thought about the stuff I am gonna try doing for when I do demos, and figured I'd just start a "What do you do for Demos" thread.

If you make something try to include what material you used, aprox. how long it took you, what you charge for it if you do, if possible a picture, and lastly if you learned this from a posting somewhere and still have the link add that too. Am I asking too much?

So here is what I did today....

ignore the twist.

The Medallions were made from 3/8" plugs from my work. I heated them then gave a good couple pounds to flatten them a bit, about the size of a Loonie. I took some pieces of things in an "odds and ends" jar and on a second heat laid them on and gave another pound. The finished one on the right was made with a washer in two heats for the impressions. Took about 10 min to do. I learned about this on the net and darned if I remember where but it was a cool idea, fast and cheap. Clean them up, add some wax, put a little leather lace on it and sell them off for a 1$ or two.

I tell the group the blacksmith was the most iportand trade and explain they had to make all of the other trades tools and anything of iron other than cast pots.
As demos I do quare nails, little swords made out of double headed nails because every kid wants a sword. One piece roses out of 1/4" round. Color with a brass brush tell about black iron being the most dangerous becaujse it could be 20 below or up to 800 degrees. A couple minutes after I am done with the rose I dribble water on it to show how hot is still is. As a last I wipe a little rose oil on and hand it into the crowd after it is cold of course.
