Pipeliner32
Hello the list, made a flint striker of high tensile steel, followed some suggestions posted here. I cannot get sparks from striking it with flint. Any suggestions Pipeliner32
pkrankow
Your flint edge needs to be somewhat thin and sharp, but not so thin that it cracks when you hit it. Your motion it a "buffing" motion like "I'm too cool" buffing of fingernails on your shirt (you showoff), but more vigorous and with a piece of steel on the flint edge, and only in the direction you want sparks. The fella who sold me the now broken good striker and taught me would shine his nails repeatedly as he talked about using a striker, then use the striker. Looked a bit obsessive/compulsive at first till he demonstrated a spark. If your striker is too soft the flint won't dig metal flakes out with the energy to spark. Good luck, and leave the flesh ON your knuckles. Phil
