I found this rounding hammer at a garage sale and was able to get the guy to unload it for $4. It was pretty rusty so I hit it with a wire brush and found the faces to be in great shape.

I also noticed that it had the makers mark on the side which appears to be a horse and the letters "OSCO". I was curious so searched the web and all I could find with OSCO was Ohio Stove Company which I doubt made hammers.

Anyone ever heard of OSCO for farrier tools?

It may be Heller Bro.s Company. I collect (and use) many Heller tools and would rather pay new prices for an 80 year old Heller hammer than for a new one. They made tools for many trades including 'smithing farriers, even auto body repair. Thier symbol is the horse logo as it looks on your hammer. 4$ was a great deal for a useable collectible hammer!:)

Thanks Tennessee. I'm with you on preferring old tools. Not only do they seem to be made a lot better, I like the history that goes with them as well.

As one who had quite an extensive collection of Heller Bros. Co. farrier tools at one time, I have to agree that it is a Heller Bros. logo. One of the more easily recognized logos, even if you only have a partial one left

Keep it, use it, adore it. I never had one of that type in the collection.

I have a Champion that is very similar. It is a joy to use.

What you are seeing in the photo as "OSCO" is actually the tail end of "HELLER BROS. CO."

Note that a lot of old tools were not that great but the bad ones have a looong time to get trashed by a disgruntled user  leaving a richer proportion of the good ones to us!
