rthibeau
For what it's worth, I went to the local steel supplier to buy various sizes of mild steel. Prices have come down somewhat, this is what I paid: hot rolled round 5/16" dia, 20' length = $5.07 hot rolled round 3/8" dia, 20' length = $6.29 hot rolled round 1/2" dia, 20' length = $6.85 hot rolled round 5/8" dia, 20' length = $10.49 hot rolled square 3/8", 20' length = $6.10 hot rolled square 1/2", 20' length = $8.78 It averages to $7.26 for a 20 foot length which I hope to turn into stuff reselling for at least $100, just as an example. Making garden stuff so it gets used up fairly fast and turns a nice profit even after adding in overhead and time.
ChrisB
Much better than what I can get locally. Unless I want to drive 90 miles and make a 5 hour adventure out of it.
Pat Roy
My supplier told me steel was selling at $0.50-$0.80 /pound depending on the shape.
