i'm setting up a small garage forge and want to make an area for both a gas and coal forge. My idea is to put in a vented hood (with a blower) over the area and wheel in either forge when i use them . Does a hood over a coal forge take care of most of the smoke, etc. or am i better off planning on a side draft, etc. and making other plans for the gas forge?

thanks

I have friends that have tried both and the majority prefer the sidedraft.
Depending on how clever you are you could make the side draft hood a front poke out a litte more and the back a litte curved and free standing so that you could do both with one vent.

The side draft works on heat it doesn't care what the fuel is.
