Jason McD
The vice I found while searching at the local scrapyard. Cost me 20 bucks at 40 cents a pound. Has a 4 on the underside of the mounting plate and 1 1/2 on the screw box. I wish I would've taken a pic before I got it cleaned up and greased
Everything Mac
Nice score Jason! I like the bench too. *grumble, want a bigger workshop grumble.... Andy
Jason McD
Thanks, I kinda lucked into the workshop, came with the house I just bought in April. Actually think the previous owner, now deceased, may have done some smithing. Found a hot set in the shop
Jakesshop
Just finished cleaning up this Parker vise so I could install it on my new workbench. Didn't get a pic of the rusted up mess this one was. I kinda like the natural look of iron, so I used boiled linseed oil on it to keep the rust away. Kal
The adjustable legs allow for uneven ground at demos. The one disadvantage is that the legs get in the way when cleaning up the shop.
Brian Brown
Greetings. I lucked out and found myself a great Christmas present. 8 3/4" jaw in beautiful shape. Going to have to rearrange the shop a bit to mount it. I haven't found scales I can weigh it on yet but I'd guess it's in the 300lb range.
VaughnT
Wow. 8.75" jaws?!? That's a hoss of a vise right there!! What's that extra bit bolted to the lower leg for?
Brian Brown
What's that extra bit bolted to the lower leg for? It was part of how it had been mounted at some point. Got it mostly cleaned up today. Also got her weighed, not quite as heavy as I thought but still a massive 220lb. Going to build a stand to mount it to tomorrow. Brandon1
I went by a local indoor flea market today to just look around. Well after looking for a while I saw this nice little post vise. It has 35 stamped on multiple pieces which I assume is the weight of the thing. The only other stamping is on the pivoting jaw on the left side below the screw hole it says Quikwerk. Anyone have any info on the age or maker? I paid 120 for it which was more than I wanted to for my first vise, but they are scarce as hens teeth around here. Most have been sent to the scrap yards :( Anyhow here it is after a good brushing, oiling and greasing.
Chinobi
Quikwerk is an older vice manufacturer, and that stamp looks different than the one on my own, so that might be from a different era as well, or it could be a size difference. Mine is a 5" 65 lb'er, I asked pretty much the same questions and Frank Turley was kind enough to look up a few tidbits of information about the company for me. nice to see that the square nut is common to both, I was thinking that it was aftermarket on mine because my pivot bolt is so short that it doesn't clear the top of the nut as it appears that yours does. *shrug* still works! I paid 140 for mine, which was pretty fair for my region, cant help ya on the pricing relative to Alabama, but mine is about twice the size =/ get that beauty mounted up and into service regardless :)
Brandon1
Yea I forgot to add that the jaws are 4".
humphreymachine
Two small bench vises showing some similarities to their larger cousins – the post vise. The smaller of the two has all over scale which would seem to suggest that it was overheated while finishing or heat treating. Not sure it these were heat treated but it might make sense given the two small ‘anvil’ spots on each.
choppertrike
Finished my vise stand some time ago, never posted pic, so here it is. It's mounted on 2 rr track joints so I can sink it into the gravel when I do my permanent set-up.

Anachronist58
There is a great story, in my amateur opinion, that goes along with this 65#, 5" post vise. Perhaps some day I will tell that story. It belonged to the father of my aunt Sherry. Sadly, she passed away this morning. I had hoped to put it to work and give her a good report. It was a very special gift to me, made even more precious now. I know that soon it will bite glowing steel..... Lord wiliing and the creek don't rise..... smfg_mendo
new to the forums. I inherited this from my grandfather this last weekend. It was my great grandfathers then my grandfathers and my father let me have it. I use to use it alot when it was attached to my grandfathers old work bench. Its in great condition for its age. I took it all apart and wire wheeled it and serviced it. Getting ready to build and stand for it Im not sure of the age or maker??? doesnt seem to have and indentify marks, it has circular grooves on the handle and bell shaped end, has decorative fluted legs too
ThomasPowers
Does the mounting bracket conceal a sq hole in the shaft where a tennon mounting plate was originally installed? (the tennon mounting is a good indicator of being an early vise)

BIGGUNDOCTOR
Here is my main vise , jaws are around 6" IIRC. My Dad ,made the stand while we were taking the welding/blacksmithimg courses at Solano Community College under Dave Nourot. The others are just kicking around for now. They are in the 4"-5" range. CleetisMorgan
Finally got a pic of my vices. The 4" and 6" are in my "winter shop", the other 3 are in the barn for use when I have visitors. I paid for the 6", the rest have been traded for welding and spraying jobs.
