  1. I am making several striking anvils for friends and family. Six pieces of 5" x 5" x 12" 5135 material saw cut to square faces and waterjet the 1" hardy (I am not the man that Custer and Brazeal and some others are, and also do not have the time to drift that many anvils). Time and effort being what they are.......how much utility is there in having the 1/2" pritchel in a striking anvil? Cheers, Riffe
  2. Hey pals, just me forging an over kill nail to practice both tapering large stock material and striking/upsetting in a swage block: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=LrYuATVaeTE As always a high-res picture of the finished product: Yours - Daniel
  3. Hey fellows! Here I am forging an edge tool together with Alec Steele while I was visiting him at his place in North Norfolk, England, United Kingdom. The tool was forged to finish from a piece of car axle. I directed while he struck for me; instructing how to make it at the same time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo6wTWRvbnM&feature=youtu.be Yours - Daniel
  4. Hey Guys, during my autumn holly days I paid Julien Puy a visit in his shop near Dijon in France. I stayed with his family for four days. I helped him out in the shop, therefore he showed me some cool new stuff. He used to be a blacksmithing instructor for four years and did a lot of traveling around the world especially USA, the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic. On the first day we made this clothes hanger: The second day we made two Brazeal style rounding hammers. One was for a customer of Julien, he was forging and I was striking. Here you can see a video of it: After that we made a second one for me. I forged and he striked. Unfortunately there is no video of it... Toolsteel with a carbon content of 0,48% was used, pretty similar to 1045 or C45 steel. The handle I made myself from African hardwood. The hammer head ways somewhat around 3lbs. It is hardened and partially tempered at the cheeks. The all-in-all price for that one was 150€ (~200$). The next day we made inter alia this axe blank from pure iron I will weld in a cutting edge and finish it soon:
  5. Okay I went to Brian's For a 3-1/2 day class and I saw his striking anvil. I got a piece of 4" square and would like to put a 1" hardy hole and a prittle hole but don't know exactly how. If any of you have an idea PLEASE HELP! Thanks
