  1. Had a nice weekend and got some hours in on the forge. Amongst the projects: - fixed the parts for a messed up dragon doorknocker - forged some copper wings for it. (one part will take soldering) - toyed with forging aluminum for the first time - modified a hammer into a diagonal peen - just barely began a knife from a little chunk of file (got tired, didn't finish) - made an oogly nail header and a few nails - couple of new punches - did some hammer and hardy tool holders for my stump, - straightened and started grinding/filing a ballpeen tomahawk. (yeah, it's got some fuller marks to take out, but hey, it's a first.) - worked on my bulldog bottle openers, definitely better. They ain't perfect, but they're mine. Also spent some time with the umm, whatta ya call 'em....wife and kids? I'll can always sleep when I'm dead. How was your weekend?
  2. Just thought id share a couple photos of a nail header I made recently. This is my third nail header and I decided to make it the style I had seen on Angele-shop's website since it looked awesome to use not needing to hold onto it while heading a nail. I love this style and I aim to replace my others with ones like these when I get the time. My only issue with this type of nail header is that now I either need to make a hot cut hardy that fits my anvils pritchel or simply throw my current one in the vise...
  3. . Here is a mild steel header I made for making copper nails (3/8 " x 1-1/2 " flat forged into a swage block for a dome). The square hole opening in the header is a frog hair over 1/8 " square, and I started with 3/16 " solid copper wire (#4). The nails are approx 7/8 " long and have about a 3/8 " head. This job only requires 56 copper nails, so I have a few left from the 20 made so far, not that many compared to the old days of making nails for a living.
