  1. I have acquired i believe, an old large forge bellow. It's large, probably 6 feet tall. I attached pictures. It was in a church,so I was assuming it was some kind of old organ, but after researching, I found forge bellows and I think that's what it is. Im not sure why the church had it,lol. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction to the makers of these. I'd like to find out the history; company name, year made, etc. I would like find out if it is worth anything and if so, who I would contact? I'm so so clueless about where to go with this lol.
  2. This is my second attempt at a cobbler hammer that I made for a friend that does leather work. It weighs in at 27 oz he wanted 24 but I over shot a bit because I wanted to give him weight to dress it.
  3. Hello guys, So I bought a yellow Hobart Leather Welding Apron (770548). I think it's pretty common apron in blacksmithing, it's pretty cheap, on amazon, and is %100 leather. My problem is that when I get working and sweating this runs its yellow dye onto my clothes underneath. Thankfully I wear crappy clothes for blacksmithing and I think it may come out in the wash. It's like I must wear an apron.....to wear an apron. Anyways, I was wondering if you guys have this problem and if you've solved it? I was thinking maybe soaking in cold water or something but I know nothing of leather and it's properties so I don't wanna ruin it. Thanks guys.
  4. Here is my blacksmithing apron i had made, along with some cuffs. I started smithing a year ago and as with my traditional archery i have embraced the culture of the trade. I also am a taller thicker built guy so finding a thick leather apron was difficult. I am happy with the way it turned out it. The upper is a stiff chunk of bull hide and the bottom Bison hid which is very thick but pretty flexible. Cuffs are the same leather as the upper portion of the apron. My wife is not happy about all the burn holes in my sleves and front of my shirt. I have suffered some pretty good burns on my forearms and am glad to have some protection. I know it may sound wimpy to some but I would like to preserve my body so as to enjoy smithing for a longer duration of time.
  5. I just acquired a fairly new portable forge that is belt driven, but I can't seem to upload any pictures, sorry! Anyway, where is the best place to go to buy replacement belts, should that I need one? Does anyone know? Also, my belt seems to have loosened some since I riveted it. Should I try to remove the rivets and re-rivet, or is there a way to shrink the leather some (I don't need much) without causing cracking? Thanks!
