The table is 2ft x 3ft made from a sheet of 3/16 (4mm) mild steel, for the lip I used 4in x 3in angle iron to both support the table, provide a lip and allow me to bolt the top assembly to the legs which are made from 2in x 2in angle.   2. Here's my gas forge build its made of a 40 dollar air compressor tank. Has two mikey style burners which the kind folks on here have help me improve, and 2 inches of kaowool with rigidzer and refactory. Its inside deminsions are 18 in length 7 inchs wide and tall. I had to order some more refractory and will be finishing shortly.
  3. I'm a beginner blacksmith and I have made my own forge and anvil from scrap parts and thrift store purchases. The forge is awesome and I have no complaints about that investment but the anvil has some serious draw backs.   4. The plans for my forge were from a book by Randy McDaniel's and it was made from steel scraps and material donations from friends. The total cost of my forge was a $40 angle grinder (the $20 angle grinder caught fire) and $10 worth of cut off blades. The blower was from a clothes dryer, and had a rheostat, but the air restrictor on the intake worked much better. I spent a long time on the clinker breaker, but never used it and it would work better without it. Five pounds of coal gives me about 45 minutes of heat. I am new to this forum and generally new to blacksmithing...trying to build my first forge for sword smithing (and for b/s training of course) !!! i ordered from my local metal supplier to make me this iron forge.Its dimensions are 1.40 metrs in length , 55 cm across and 34 cm height , while the iron pieces are 4mm thic ... Now i have a problem with the inside formulation ! I dont know what to do in order to have a good and efficient-working forge .Firebricks seem too expensive...someone told me to use maltes

    Coal forge

    This forge was found in a pile of junk headed to the dump. It had homemade hand cranked blower that worked pretty good, but the wooden handle grip was gone. So it was a little uncomfortable to use cranking with a metal rod. You can see the sprockets still on there, I have all the parts to it still. I got a bathroom vent fan and duct taped a length of pvc conduit and fed that into the pipe were the blower was. It actually works really well and is very quite.
