A Peter Wright Anvil on Craigslist

Hi, I'm fairly new to this forum, and after browsing around, decided to make an account on account of anvils. Arguably, the most difficult part of starting out blacksmithing is finding the proper tools, but this applies especially to anvils (as I believe) as they are varied, expensive, difficult to move around, and overall requires a lot of work to acquire a good one. However, I believe I may have found something great 138 miles from me is a 219 pound Peter Wright anvil going for $700. Not exactly the best price ($3.12 a pound) but in my part of California that's pretty much the best you'll ge -
I came across this 170lb Trenton Anvil made in 1911 on Craigslist, and was able to get it for $450.00. I wire wheeled it, put some oil on it, and it cleaned up real nice. It has around 80-85% rebound! Now it is time to hit some Hot Steel on it.

I was able to get this 75lb Trenton Anvil off craigslist yesterday. I kept checking the listings and noticed it had been up for only 20 minutes and called the guy and went and picked it up. I included a photo of the Trademark and Serial # 33348 for Blackfrog if he is interested for his database (Year 1902) This one had Heavy Forge Marks under the Heal, just like my other Trenton. Fatfudd you are right a lot of Trentons do have the heavy Forge or Fullering marks under the heal like Arm & Hammer.

I found this 132lb Peter Wright on Craigslist 30 minutes from my house. I brought it home; wire wheeled it and put some oil on it and am very happy with it. It has great Rebound 85-90% Now my 145lb Trenton has a brother!

I have been interested in blacksmithing since I was a wee lad. I made a cheesy 16 gauge great helm with roofing nails as rivets in welding class and a butted chainmail haubergeon when I was a teenager over 10 years ago. I have recently become very interesting in smithing again. The first thing I need is an anvil. I have been checking craigslist often and I found one for much cheaper than most others. It has a wavy recessed edge near the top that bothers me. Can you anvil experts tell me if the is a red flag or nothing I need to worry about? Farriers anvil, 135# $295, includes stump. The -
Hi all, new on I Forge Iron, recently my father and I got into blacksmithing, and we needed an anvil. All we had was a square block of iron. No horn or anything.. well anyways we picked one up off craigslist today and its in decent shape, minus the base. It looks like it was cut or broken at the waist, and a rod was welded to it, and drilled down into the stump its sitting on. The guy made a wood block to fit around the bottom. Anyways, the things has gotta be near 200#. It took us both to move it in and out of my truck with difficulty. Theres no name or weight on it, and its about overall
