I forged this kitchen knife out of bicycle chain with a 1080 steel backer. It is hollow ground and has a single bevel edge (for left handed use). The cutting edge is entirely 1080 steel, the chain is just for looks. Redheart wood handle.

I finished a second chain damascus drawknife. It has a 1080 steel backer with redheart and copper handles. I traded the bigger one to a friend (Brian of BearKat Wood) who made me an incredible woodworking hand saw in exchange.

I've been working on this chain damascus drawknife. It started as a bicycle chain and a large old ARCADE bastard mill file. It took me three separate forging sessions, as there was more steel than I expected to draw out by hand and my arms are pretty lame. I now have the forging complete and the drawknife rough ground ready for HT.

I forged this socket chisel/slick from a bicycle chain welded to an O1 steel backer. Heat treated it myself in the forge and my kitchen oven. The handle is redheart, finished with shellac and wax. This project was inspired by the Peter Ross DVD "Forging a Socket Chisel". Next time I'll try to get the socket to weld properly, but it seems to hold the handle very tightly regardless.

I pick up this heavy roller chain years ago from a machine shop that closed in the 1950's. Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on whether it would work for chain damascus. I have not spark tested it yet. Close up of the chain. It is laying on a 55 gallon drum. The links are big. Second length, the links are slightly smaller: Close up of the name: Link Belt and #size
