  1. After buying 2 real crucibles (graphite, size A4), assembling two strong ingot moulds and melting several badges of pure bronze (then copper) badges. All to get the feeling for base material behaviour and consistence (no pyrometer). Also build 4 pure chamotte clay cast moulds with the negatives (wood models) of historical founding’s (axe, arrow point, dagger etc.) reusable instead of petrobond (at least I hope ;-) ) Carrie out my first cast this evening and keep you informed about the results. Cheers, Hans
  2. Actually, I know there was something missing on the new (very old, hand forged post vice), finally find out that was the ring between the turner handle and the screw box. Made a clay pattern to fill in the missing part. Will (bronze) cast them next week and keep you update. Cheers, Hans
  3. So i'm trying to make a mould of an old axe head i have (which i believe is viking inspired) to bronze cast as a gift. I use green sand to make my mould so my problem is that i can't get a mould to keep the gap in the axe-head. The only idea i have come up with is putting a steel rod made into the shape of the gap and putting it into the mould but i would prefer an alternative as this would take a lot of time and i don't think i have the proper tools. If anyone can come up with an alternative way i would appreciate it.
  4. This is a 5" x 7" clay tile/plaque pattern I made for a bronze casting class I'm taking. I would rather move red hot metal vs. clay to get shapes I need. Lots of hours into this but, for the most part it came out the way I envisioned it. Now, I hope the Bronze pour turns out - will update when that happens.
  5. This is a 5" x 7" clay plaque pattern I made for a bronze casting class I'm taking. I like working with hot metal lots better to get shapes I want.
