  1. I just finished and installed this railing its 14 ft long in 3 sections took me 100 hours from start to install. The customer wanted a thicket of branches that looked real and had no 4" holes so the railing would meet code. It was hand sanded and waxed. I had to weld and grind over 150 "nublets" (cut off branches) the railing took 400 feet of round rod ranging from 1 1/4" down to 3/8" I was very happy to finish the railing and move on to some thing else but I got a call the day before install and another customer saw my web site and ordered 43' of this railing. I changed the design a bit but it will take about 300 hours for the next job............ not the most technical work but it is an art form and it takes time to put it all together fitting each branch properly.
  2. its just a small grill for basement window...
  3. Hey everyone! Here's a gate that we did a few years ago, but it's one of my favorite projects we've done so I thought I'd share it. The gate is 5 ft tall, by 39 inches wide, I think. We cheated a bit, it's not all hand forged, a lot of it is plasma cut from a 3/8 hot rolled plate. But the leaves are hand forged. We painted it with a tarnished copper green, sprayed a watered down black paint all over it light but enough to make it run down the gate a bit. And the leaves have been gold brushed. Hope ya'll like it! Have a good weekend!
  4. A few years ago there was a tree made by blacksmiths in Poland where blacksmiths from around the world contributed leaves representing their country. Canadian blacksmiths made maple leaves, Australian blacksmiths made gum leaves etc. I think it was called the Tree of Friendship. I've recently been asked for the name of the town where this tree is, but I have no idea. Does anyone know? And does anyone have a picture of it?
  5. Hello all, I haven't been on IFI in a while but here is my new piece! This is a Tree lamp thingy for the Ocmulgee Blacksmith Guild auction (to raise money for the guild). I would love to know what you think, and any tips would be gladly accepted! Thanks alot for all the GREAT Blacksmithing tips and support. Yours in Blacksmithing, Lakesideforge Steven B.
