  1. Hi All, New to this site, I just purchased my first anvil and I am very excited. I wanted to get your thoughts on the condition and whether or not to clean it up as it is so old. Here are a few pictures. One thing is that on the bottom it says May 13, 1884/1894 but the back says 1900 can someone clear that up for me? In addition I think I got a really good deal on it but I dont know the going rate for these types of things. For more information I am located in New Hampshire. Thanks, Dally

  3. Hello, I wanted to post this on the forums because I have a lot of questions and I'm sure someone will know the answers. I tried to look up some information up online with no luck. So here you guys go: 1: Is this piece rare and desired by the blacksmithing community? 2: How much would this piece be sold for? 3: What is the history behind this piece if any? Thank you so much for your time and if you want I'd be more than happy to reply to anything said. Mitch
  4. I have been a reader for way too long and its time to do some posting. I'm sorry to join and right away post a question, but I'm going to be that guy so here it goes. I have coveted a power hammer for a long time, and now I have run across a hammer that I may be able to grab. The problem is I don't know what i should pay for it. I know there are lots of post on this already, but they all give a rather large range of prices depending on the specific hammer. I was hoping that with some pictures someone on here may be able to nail down what I should pay for this hammer. According the the seller it is in "great overall condition 8/10 it work the same as the day it came out of the factory no cracks, weld, major rust i freshly took it apart and cleaned it, greased the parts and adjusted the hammer." The hammer is a 25# Canadian Giant, which apparently is the same as a Jardine (not sure if that is true). based on the pictures, and what little info I have given what do you think it is worth? Thank you in advance for your advice and help.
  5. I am in New Hampshire and I dont know where to go to invest in steel stock.
  6. So I have this guy selling a motor powered blower very close to where I live. I'm just wondering if it's worth 150 dollars or if it's too much. I just don't ever see any of these around where I live so it's a rare occasion. And I have nothing to use yet other than a shop vac with a brake drum(I know it's pathetic) http://qc.kijiji.ca/c-acheter-et-vendre-outils-outils-electriques-souflerie-W0QQAdIdZ466226566 I translated the ad for you guys. Nice Big blower. Buffalo Forge. For whatever usage, cooling something, machine or other power a forge fire, or or or... New motor 1/3 110/220 volts, very rare, very inexpensive at this price. I tried with a big pipe in my fireplace passing the air into the fire,,, too strong. So if you have any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot.
  7. Hello, I recently purchased this 124 lbs Peter Wright Anvil for $300. It is in excellent shape and has a very nice ring to it. Can any verify if this was a good price to pay? Can anyone tell me specifically when this Anvil might have been produced? From what I have read, it is pre 1900 since the “England” marking is missing on the side. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  8. Hi all, Recently this anvil appeared on an online classifieds site. It is a 200-300lbs Peter Wright and the seller wants $300 or best offer. It looks like it has been beat up a little bit, but I am considering offering $150-200 for it anyway. (In my area anvils are very hard to come by in the best of times. I have let some good ones pass by before, so I've learned it's better to buy them when possible, because it's just as easy to sell them again later.) Do you have any thoughts on the condition and value? Regards, Markus
