  1. Scottish Dirk for Critique

This is a traditional Scottish Dirk with an antler handle. The blade is made from 440c stainless and has a mirror finish. It has Scottish Yew and nickel silver accents. The tip got boogered up because I dropped it in a parking lot, so I'm aware of that issue already. Thinking of carving an inset in the antler axis for a pewter clan badge. Also it's not actually bent, as the first picture suggests. Hope you can see in the other pictures that it's straight.
  2. Hey gang, I've been searching around and I've found a few resources on forging medieval style arrow tips. I've been thinking of doing some, maybe a dozen or so, and mounting them on some arrows for my English longbow and giving them a whirl (why not, right?). Have any of you forged any arrow tips? If so, do you have any tips or suggestions? I have two books that have nice, short sections about the subject. Thanks! Cheers! Benton

  6. ring brooch revisited

Hi fellows, after so many people gave me so many useful tips on my last post about a Viking-ring-brooch I forged things came really clear to me. Today I forged a new one regarding all the new knowledge I gathered. This is what came out: Thank you guys again for sophisticating me. I´d be glad to hear your opinion about it. - Daniel
  7. Side draft history?

Hello again. I was wondering if anyone here can tell me a short history of the side draft (not blast) forge design (for curiosity more than anything). I have been looking all over to see if I could find the earliest instance of this sort of forge, with little luck. I thought a good place to start my search is the medieval (I know, very vague term) era, but it seems to me that most medieval forges have full hoods of masonry. I cannot find a date for the beginning of the use of side draft forges. Any help? Thanks!
