Hello all! My name is Vincenzo and I’ve recently been looking for an upgrade to my smithing setup. As of now I’ve been using a chunk of I-beam which seems sufficient enough, but leaves much to be desired. On EBay I noticed an anvil for sale that seems to be in my price range if the auction doesn’t fluctuate too much. The description states that it weighs 115lbs and is currently going for $325 so roughly $2.82 a pound. I can’t see any markings to tell what brand it is and the seller stated that they don’t know either. It also looks to be pretty rusted, but from what I’ve read that might not be
I finally took the plunge and bought my first anvil. It's a 200lb Fisher-Norris "Eagle". The auctioneer called it a "city" anvil because due to the manufacturing process it doesn't have the telltale high pitched ring. At least that's what he said. I think I may have gotten caught up in the bidding and overpaid a bit for this, but it's really what I was looking for, so I'm telling myself it's OK. I know it's worth is in the eye of the beholder, so I'm not asking if I got a good deal or a bad deal, I'm asking if you would pay $800 for this anvil? Do we have any Fisher experts in our mi
Hey guys, I am completely new to black smithing and want to have a go, however before I begin I need some kind of anvil. I've had a look around but no one in my area is selling any so I thought I might try making my own. A friend from work mentioned that you can start by using an off cut section of I-beam as a cheap first anvil. I managed to pick up a section of I-beam 10mm thick 300mm wide and 500mm long and an even wider section of U-beam I was thinking I could weld on top. I was thinking of welding some SHS to support the edges of the I-beam or even some plate steel between the two sec
Hey guys Cota here again, I was wondering if this anvil, the petter wright I found not to long ago. If its worth picking up for the price. ($275) it's 1-1-2 or 1-1-1 you can't exactly read the last number. He claims its around 120 pounds and it looks to be in good condition from the picture I have of it. To pick it up it'll cost my about $120 dollars to drive down to where its at Albuquerque New Mexico, USA I don't really want to pay $275 for it although probably worth that much considering the weight and visual condition from what I can tell. So I need some advice on it. Yay or nay here's
