  1. I recently bought a nice champion forge blower. It runs smooth, throws a lot of air and cleaned up pretty nice. The only problem is when you let go of the crank, and the fan slows down, it sounds like the blades are hitting the inside of the housing. It is only when you let go. When you crank it its squared up and doesn't make contact. The crank does have some play. There does seem to be some sort of spacer where the crank enters the housing, but its pretty thin and worn out. Should that be there or did the previous owner add that? Any idea how to fix this wobble or what might be causing it? I
  2. My son and I just found our first forge after months of searching. :D Craigslist to the rescue! Only had to pay $250 for the whole thing! I was very happy to find this complete setup in what I think is great condition as there are no cracks or rust through, and the blower system runs! My next step is to effect repairs and get this working. My son is really interested in blacksmithing and knife making so now we start on a new hobby together. Now the questions: 1) The firepot used to have a surrounding material that brought the table level with the pot and also matched the slope into t
  3. hey all this is my first post, i would say i am humbly familiar with coal smithing, but this little trinket seems to have fallen into my lap and i am trying to learn more about it... i know it is a champion blower and forge co. complete repair outfit No. 30... but as for what it is worth as a useable forge i am not so sure. I have used a bit of clay to line the pan as it is only 1/4" cast iron, and i am very unfamiliar with side-blast forges. so i dont know quite how to get this puppy cookin', which is mainly why i am posting. it has a 12" x 14" pan. is that even worth trying to work with?
  4. After many months of searching craigslist, asking about this forge or that on IFI, and dreaming constantly, I have finally found a forge. It is now in my posession for only $125. I am the proud new owner of a 12" Champion 400 blower and a Whirlwind firepot! I am having some difficulties though, and after fruitlessly looking through the old posts about fixing 400 blowers and firepots, I turn to you all. The blower makes a rattling sound, but I think it is just the fan blades scraping ever so slightly against the housing. I'm going to try and adjust that. THe big problem with the blower
  5. Hey Guys, I've been lurking here for awhile and finally decided to sign up after I bought a forge this weekend. While I have built a few in the past years, I couldn't pass up this offer, and wanted to share it with you guys. This is the Forge, it is a Champion Blower and Forge from Livingston PA patented in 1902. The forge and blower are both in great shape. I payed $200 for it, granted I could have built 3 more forges for the same cost, But like I said I couldn't pass up this piece of history. Please let me know what you guys think and if you have any insight of the history of this
  6. I have a buddy trying to sell me this forge. From the little research I've done it looks like a Champion 400 blower but I can't tell much about the force itself. Both are pretty rusted up. The blower cranks fairly easily but sounds like a bearing is about to turn loose. The forge is so rusted nothing is legible and there is a leg broke off, probably rusted off. My questions.... The connecting pieces seem to be there but don't quite line up. It looks like it might have come from a different blower. Does this fit the 400 and this forge? Do I need to get some kind of duct to connect the bl
  7. I bought a forge table, Lancaster 40 Blower (works perfectly bit small for my needs), Delta 5 inch Disc and 30 inch belt combo, and an old Sears and Roebuck 4 by 36 with 8 inch disc for $90 last year. The table has a dutch oven lid as a fire pot (I used some kiln cement to make it a tiny bit deeper), with a normal tuyere attatchment. The thing is, it takes a round fire pot, and I don't know where to get a round firepot. The table weight 140+/-. It was originally a pump-action forge. It has a raised lip around the hole for the firepot. What brand might it be? I chipped out the cement and am me
