  6. Hey folks! This is not quite a blacksmithing event, but there IS molten iron involved. Tomorrow at the Franconia Sculpture Garden in Skandia, MN there is a free iron pour going on! As I understand it, artists will be using/creating molds and then filling them with the good stuff. The event is from 12-5. Franconia Sculpture Park 29836 St. Croix Trail Franconia, MN 55074 For a point of reference, this is about forty-five minutes northeast of the Twin Cities. I don't know if there's anybody but Stephen Olivo and me up here, but you are all welcome. For more details, just google Franconi
  7. I recently completed another artistic welding class at the local community college and thought it was time to show the results. I'm still working on the fish, I want to grind the fins to make them more life like. The heron will be an outside lawn art piece and I'm going to try my luck at airbrush painting on it. Thanks for looking. Kent.

  10. First Greetings to all as I am new to this forum, I have recently graduated from a fine art course here in England during which I used several time the forge to produce my artwork. First for me a great occasion to try myself to a specialist skill, then a way to get to a result intended as the college had sold their foundry, so it was the only way to go heavy metal. I now have been proposed to create an artwork for a town for which I first have to produce a quote. Once again, for time, reasons and practicality, I will use the forge to help me shapping the metal as desired. This is the rea
  11. Good Afternoon, I joined this forum and promtly found myself browsing briefly through each forum section, and was inspired by the first sticky on the copper page. I realised that I should get stuck in with what I have and to stop waiting when I can afford the right tools and have 'this' or 'that'. So I started pulling out things which I have been lugging around with me for years, looked for some scrap copper pipe from the geyser we put in and just got stuck in, and here is the result.
  12. Is there anyone in London who would like to share a forge with me? I'm trying to set one up but haven't yet found a space or anyone to share with. I'm looking for someone who is making interesting artist blacksmith work, who wants to set up a space. I'm trying to get money together now to buy some equipment, so if you have any that would be useful too...! You can see my work at http://www.agnesjones.com Thanks, Agnes Sadly this poster has not logged into IFI since making this post :(
  13. Hey Fellows! Today I practiced for making a candle holder that I have in my mind. I made a cross inspired by the cross type explosions from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Two tapered bars, slot punched, drifted and riveted together with a 12mm square rivet. Then placed on a wooden log. Here again with more light from the front: I hope you like it! Yours - Daniel
  14. This morning I received in my inbox, information of yet another degree in craft. This time at Crawford College of Art & Design, in Co. Cork, Ireland. It will consist of ceramics, glass and textiles. Once again blacksmiths are not at the table. I have long thought the blacksmith industry needs to focus some attention on getting our craft into the major art colleges. On the whole, when voicing this idea I’ve been met with mockery, derision, anger, outrage and, thankfully support, at such an idea. Why are we so resistant to new ideas? Surly having small forging departments open for three o
  15. Hey Guys, today I forged this candleholder with a leaf as a base plate. It is forged in one piece out of 20mm round stock. Regards - Daniel
