    Majastic Forge

You might contact magestic and see if they would replace the cracked piece before it becomes an issue. There is a post about building a brickforge that I believe said that the protective coating you are taking about can be use and that it will increase the temp your forge can reach. I don't know if it would increse it enough to burn steel but thats one thing I like about my forge is I can have several pieces in the fire and I don't have to worry about burning up a piece. I don't know what this coating would cause an issue when it comes time to reline your forge.

I don't know if this is the kind of info you are looking for. I have a diamondback forge that is lined with what looks like the same thing as your magestic. The difference is that mine has a wool type insulation that goes between the block insulation and the metal case. I've had mine for around 3 years I've relined it twice. It gets hotter than i need I do have to becarefull not to poke the brick but overall I'm very happy with it's preformance. If I were you I would use it a while before changing too much. I did notice a crack in the insulation over the forge opening on one end of your forge. I would watch that it doesn't keep getting bigger as this would allow heat to get to the case and will warp and distort the housing.
  5. I too was shocked to see this post. I never meet Grant but when ever I saw him reponsed to a post I would read it and was always amazed how much he knew and shared. Can only feel for his family and their loss. I feel a real sence of loss even though we never meet. THERE ARE TWO DATES IN TIME THEY WRIGHT ON YOUR STONE EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY MEAN BUT WHAT MATTERS MOST IS THE TIME THAT IS SHOWN BY THE LITTLE DASH IN BETWEEN
  6. After growing my hair and goatee. I got a cut today. Tomarrow should be a day full of laughts
  7. Check Kingmetals.com. They have all kinds of textured bar
  8. First of all welcome back to Nebraska. I'm located in Lincoln. Sounds like you have a good plan there. The wife and I go to Kearny a couple of times a year to hit the antique stores may have to stop and check out your setup when you get settled in.
  9. I have a 3 burner balcksmiths model. Works great. I did have problems when I first got it using a 20lb propane bottle. The bottles kept freezing up, got a hold of Dennis and he told me to get a larger tank. I got a 100lb bottle and haven,t had a problem since. Using the larger bottle the gas is cheeper then using the 20 lb bottles. Cost $78 to fill the 100 lb and $ 18 to swap out the smaller ones. It's like getting the fifth small bottle free. I don;t know if the two burner models have the same problem.
  10. I normally I shave my entire head have been for the last 8 years or so. But in the last month I let it go. I now have a full head of hair and a goatee. Now everyone at work wants to know whats the deal and alot of people didn't know I had hair. It's all for fun I have alot of friends that can't grow hair and they give me a hard time about having hair and shaving it off. So now I'm growing it out so that when I decide to go back to shaving it again. I'm going to shave it in your typical male patern baldness style and go to work just to agrivate the boys that can't grow it. Should be good for a lot of laughs. The goatee is known as my third arm pit around my house.
  11. I use a diamondback iron works 3 burner forge. I have used it for about 3 years and have had good results. I have had to reline it but that is a easy thing just $80 bucks for a complete reline kit. It heat fast and gets hotter then i need. My case top is starting to warp but I plan on putting 1/4 plate top on it when I reline it next time
  12. I guess I,m lucky. I buy drop off from my employer (kawasaki Motors Mfg) for scrap prices. What ever the local scrap dealer pays them. It's been around 20 cents a lb but Ive payed as little as 9 cents. I get alot of hot and cold rolled 1/4" to1 1/2 round . the lengths are up to 36 to 40 in. I also get tubing round, square and rectangle up to 3 x 3 in. some plate got 2 pieces of 1/2 plate 6 x 4 ft for $80 made a great work welding table. I also get a lot of old tooling old weld fixtures, bender dies and press die parts. I just do this as a hobbie making yard art and other art work so I just keep an eye on the scrap hoppers and pull out what I can use.

  14. Just bought a 206 lb Hay Budden last saturday, so I had to put it to use. I made this bowie out of a leaf spring from a 65 mustang. It has iron guard and end cap and elk horn handle.
  15. Just bought this 206 lb hay budden farrier's anvil today. Wondering when it was made serial no 208719? On the opposite side of the hay budden mark there is1020 stamped with the same kind of stamp as the serial no. Brought it home fired up the forge and got a good start on a knife works very nice. Now I can choose which to us this or my 167lb peter wright. When one gets to hot I can switch to the other. I also got the hardie tools with it. Two of them are marked with one with 1/4 and 7/16 on the other what do size markings mean?
  16. A Texan walks into a blacksmith's shop and picks up a horse shoe the smith had just finished. He quickly puts the hot shoe down. The blacksmith asks was it hot? The Texan says no it just doesn't take me long to look at a horse shoe

  19. Here's a piece I just finished. Three calla lillies made out of 1 in roundstock then the flowers were put on 1/2 in stems. I watched a video of a guy making the lilly and decided to give them a try.
