  1. Frosty don't know if I'll make the meeting but I'll stop at EJ Bartells next time I'm in town. Thanks, Mark
  2. Thanks guys I found some in town. I'll be keeping my eye on the tailgating section. Thanks, Mark
  3. I'm new here and hopefully someone can help me. I recently found a second hand propane farriers forge but its missing a couple bricks. Does anyone know of a place that sells them? Was hopeing to find some local, but not much luck. Like to find a place with cheap shipping, since their coming to Alaska. Second question: Is there a thread on here for swappin or sellin? Alot of us new guys might need something you "old heads" are willing to part with. Thanks, Mark
  4. Frosty, thats funny, lived in Wasilla for 8 years before moving to North Pole. I'm sure you must know Robert "Bob" Hook. He makes some great looking knives. I'll entertain that meeting on 8/1. If you could email me the details...Thanks Mark
  5. Gentlemen thanks for the kind words. I updated my profile (thanks Frosty) and yes I hope there are some members local because I only know one local smith and he is great, I don't know if hes a member. I found you fellows through google...Mark
  6. About 3 weeks ago saw a RXR spike knife in a catalog then watched some videos on you tube and thought. Hey I got a hammer some old pliers and a piece of old rail for an anvil, I think I can do that. I bought some charcoal. got an old air compressor and started hammering away. Not quite as easy as it looked. since then I met a real blacksmith and was able to get a real set of tongs and got a good supply of spikes for practice. Been working on a brake drum forge and this has been a blast for my son and I. He's 9 but can swing the hammer pretty well. We have only fired up the forge twice but have learned something each time, I learned that a 3lb hammer can be a workout and he learned we can roast marshmallows as the forge cools off. I don't know that I'll ever be a Knifesmith but at this point it seems like it could be very addictive. I'm sure I'll be asking alot of questions here in the near future, so please bear with me. Mark
