  1. JHCC Thanks for the link to the video, just amazing how things were done in the past. The EPA and OSHA would be nuts if they walked into that shop.
  2. The hatchet seems to be hand made/forged as there no machine marks anywhere and sharpened quite well. The cross peen head is a Heller made in USA with the horse logo and it appears that it was used for a bit with the broken haft but in very good condition. I found these at the Santee swap meet located outside of San Diego, CA. 3$ for the Heller and 5$ for the Hatchet
  3. Thanks for the welcome, right now I have the tools to grind and file a blade into submission. As soon as I am able to find a suitable location for a forge I'll .... well you know what comes next! Rick
  4. Hi All, Having been a carpenter, woodworker and general contractor for the last 35 years and now have the time to try something new. Not knowing much about metal working I thought I would try my hand at making knives out of old saw blades and if it goes well maybe a small forge later on. I come here seeking information, ideas and knowledge. Rick
