  1. Thanks Louie I do have some stock removal experience but that was some 15 years ago I still have a piece of ATS34 I have been carrying that long a crossed 4 state in countless moves to remind me that I wanted to be a knife maker when I grow up. Just to be clear this was not my fist attempt I destroyed a lot of good steel getting to this point since taking a introduction to bladesmithing class last October .

  5. Hi guy I have been looking a local source for quench oil and so far all I'm coming up with Shell Voluta C400 and I wanted to see if any one has used this stuff and how they like it or don't here is a link to the data sheet My link I'm primarily working with 5160 and 1084 at the moment and I was thinking this stuff would work well for that. But really I'm just guessing and was hoping one of you smarter fellas who has some knowledge about quench oils could tell me more. thanks Lyman
  6. I have the 16 " model from riverside its my fist forge so I have nothing to compare it to but it will weld just fine. I fist used one of these forges last year at the ABS school in old Washington. I have no shots of it running yet. I've been to busy playing with it :)

Hey Randy great looking collection you have there. What kind of steel do you use and do you heat treat? I'm thinking heat treating would be a wast of time do to all the heat they will conduct when in use I stared making some out of mild steel a hot cut and a squaring die and I hope I didn't wast my time:(
  9. Hi guys I'm planning to make a quench tank this week and I just wanted to get some input. I'm thinking 4" or 6" pipe about 3 feet long welded to a steel plate , this is similar to what I used at the ABS school. Is this the simple mater I think it is or am I missing something ? Anything I'm over looking ? Any method or tips you care to share would help Thanks lyman

This is my first hammer and I'm a little unclear on lubing it the grease nipples and oil holes are obvious but the clutch not so much. Dose this get grease or oil ? how often and is there a particular oil or grease that is best for these machines? Unfortunately they didn't come with a manuals so any tips on maintaining it would help a lot Thanks Lyman
