I found what I believe to be part of well drill at scrap yard and it’s throwing what look like good sparks (to the best of my knowledge) like high carbon steel. I am just wondering if it would be suitable metal for hammers if anyone know what type of metal it may be?

Hello, I got my first forge this past winter and it’s turned into an obsession. I am located in northern Penobscot county and am interested in learning from another smith. I do plan on taking a class maybe next year at curren homestead. Happy forging yall
