  1. Thanks all There is some reinforcement at the neck area, j thought j had a picture, but there is like a box type thing that the neck fits in perfectly... Haha no definitely not solid, one of my friends thought that it was solid too and he flipped his lid still plenty heavy though at 10 kilos
  2. This is my latest project, a bass guitar body made from 2mm sheet metal. The guitar is fully functional and it works well.i bought a wood neck second hand. I guess it counts as forging because I used an oxygen acet torch and a hammer for the bends??
  3. Bit of a fisherman, living in the Far North of NZ is pretty much a given that you are into fishing... caught these ones over christmas both a bit over 8 lb, the species is snapper
  4. I've been wanting to do something similar to this for a while, but I have been a bit concerned that it might stop me from getting close enough to the anvil, wondering how you find it.
  5. I don't know if you can get John bull boots in the US because they are made in aussie but in NZ they are renowned as the best boots that you can buy, I got a pair and I literally wear them everywhere, even hiking.
  6. wow thats great billy i really like the basket twist, but i dont think that my skill level is quite there yet, also did you use a swage for the shovel, if not how did you do it thanks for the tip iron Dragon, il do that.
  7. Hello all, my mum wants me to forge a fireplace set but she is very picky and I don't want to make something that she doesn't like so I thought that I would show her a few pictures and make something similar to a one she liked. So if anyone or everyone could post pictures of a fireplace set they have seen or made I would appreciate it.
  8. Yes shipping to NZ is horrific, looking at getting a 2x48 coote grinder, the body is very well priced but shipping just about kills it.
  9. Thanks muchly for the help, I've ordered a 2lb ballpoint hammer so hopefully it'll be here soon
  10. Beg to differ, I managed to build mine for $150 total, thats, kaowool, refractory and regulator the shell was made from pieces of sheet metal from the scrap bin. A gas forge in New Zealand would have cost me $500 minimum. Although this is New Zealand and getting anything for a price that won't break the bank is nigh on impossible.
  11. Hello I did my longest forging session to date today, about 2 hours. I was mostly using a 3lb hammer as I was making tongs and drawing the reigns out. I found my wrist and elbow getting quite sore, I don't know if this was just because my muscles aren't used to it yet, but I would appreciate it if someone could let me know if I am hammering wrong, thanks. 20221121_135218587_001.mp4
  12. Well good news, it's not actually broken as the doctor initially thought, its just very badly sprained.
  13. So... I broke my wrist playing rugby today. So in a cast for the next 6 weeks. Any ideas of what sort of blacksmith/knifemaking/general crafting projects I can do? I do not want to turn into an absolute couch potato
