  1. I've been making heavy grills but that limits my market to local people. Does anyone have a recommendation for a carrier that I can use to ship heavy items economically? I'm in Maine. Thanks, all.
  2. I offered, but the chef did not think he needed any. I really wanted to make a giant spatula
  3. We did, here is a picture. Some old bacon pieces.
  4. Not tested yet, no. I will post pics for sure
  5. I think its around 9" with a 1" gap. I can measure later
  6. I have the h shaped forging press from Riverside, I think?
  7. Thank you, I will do that when I work on it again
  8. Yes, it goes over this upside down. The problem with this size is that the rim has lifted up all around from the hammering. I'm thinking of welding a grid to the bottom to flatten it, but that seems like cheating. Done for today.
  9. I made this form to take out the wrinkles. Looking good except for 2 bad spots.
  10. Done. I struggle to remember my location too
  11. Its for a wedding with 100 guests. My friend Shawn Stemp is a master chef and he is used to cooking for large groups. Francis Mallman is our hero I'm in Ellsworth, Maine. Anyone nearby is welcome to attend the second paella party after the wedding
  12. Thank you for the comprehensive answer, I will check it out. The first pan i made was 22" and I got 10 stitches at the ER when it fell on my shin. This one is for a wedding. I have some friends that think I can do anything, so its challenging but pushes me a bit. They wanted a 6' pan but at 300 odd pounds I wisely renegotiated:)
  13. I'm forging a 4' paella pan from 1/8" mild and as is expected, I'm getting some warping. I'm thinking the low spots are where I need to work to get more of the wrinkles out, what do you think?
  14. Making slugs for primitive pendants
  15. I have a 20 ton press from Riverside Machinery and I've been wanting to make tooling for it to hot punch out various shapes in 1/4" steel. Rather than reinventing the wheel, I thought I'd ask the group about easy ways to make tooling for this. I'd want to start by punching out 1" round slugs. Any help would be appreciated.
  16. I've hot pressed a 10" skillet in my 20 ton press in one go. A bearing race on the bottom with a round chunk of steel on top with some clearance. Finish with the hammer.
  17. Yes but those I do by hand. All I'm trying to do with the press is that inside depression.
