  1. The one thing that kind of goes together is to take pictures and let them do all the work. Those little imperfections that you are seeing in the new work would be an excellent gauge for the new smith a year or so down the road to compare his work from then to the future. For you as a teacher you can do the same with pictures and you yourself can see if your teaching methods are improving the student. By forging the harder parts for them they are not learning. Just my thoughts.

  2. Well, this is my first time forging a hammer, and I have to say I am pretty pleased. I was very apprehensive about starting this project but, now I can't wait to start another one. This one only weighs in at 1 3/4lbs. I believe I will be giving this first one to my son for his birthday in February, any way as usual any critiques or critisms are welcome. Always looking to step it up a notch. Will be heat treating tomorrow. Maybe I can get a handle on it too!
