  1. he may as well have just packed soil around the base and spray painted it silver. Might have held better too.
  2. I have a short video, but it doesnt give the full effect because my camera ran out of space just as i started the sound. I have lengthier videos on a friends camera, but i havent had the opportunity to get those from him. Oh and i just found out that i cannot attach quicktime movie files... If your interested enough to see the video i guess i could email it to anyone? im not sure though
  3. Everything that is sound. The way sound moves, how fast, our ears' perception of it, musical theory and instruments. Just about everything.
  4. **** fine welds. Must have cleaned the ***** out of em' after that fluxcore.
  5. Thought i'd share some pictures of a sculpture i made for my metal fabrication (which was also an experiment for my Science of Sound class). Its a 7 foot long tunnel made of chicken wire and wrapped in raw clay (which provides excellent insulation and resonance), perched atop steel stands. At one end there is a large bass amplifier hooked up to a synthesizer (which allowed me to control waveform, frequency, and amplitude), and there is also a fog machine which will inject smoke directly into the tunnel in front of the amp. The viewer stands at the opposing end, creating a unique space for them to enter. As the sound is blasted through the smoke, the changes in air pressure create some beautiful patterns in the smoke.
  6. Some people go to the movies for entertainment, others blast anvils 250 feet into the air. Everyones gotta like somethin.
  7. oh ok. That alone was probably a pretty penny. If they sunk that much into it seems like a good buy. More power and versatility than the base model Diversion (1,600$). If you can still manage parts i'd say its a steal for 1000$
  8. It looks like the new torch and ground clamp belong to the newer welder on top. If its still in working order (the wiring looks like something to worry about), Miller TIGs should last for eons, but with all detrimental factors in mind, i wouldn't pay more than 400$ for it (and then you may just end up doubling that on repairs). I think i'd rather save my money a get one of Miller's fancy new compact TIGs which go for just over 1000$ brand spankin' new. Check to see if you can still buy parts for it.
  9. I was wondering if anyone new exactly how dangerous the mildly radioactive TIG electrodes can be. If handled too often, is radiation poisoning possible?
  10. Hey all, Im a sculptor who has been working with steel for about a year now, and have gotten very efficient with the M.I.G and T.I.G processes. I first learned to weld with the stick, but never practiced or acquired too much knowledge on it. So, to all you stick pros out there, I would like to get informed on stick types, sizes to what gauge/type of metal stock, as well as recommended amps etc. Does anyone know any links to good, informative websites? Or maybe you would like to make a post in which you can spout out all of your accrued knowledge? Thanks a bunch, and happy arc-ing.
  11. Im an art student at the Tyler School of Art, and began stick and MIG welding about a year and half ago in a sculpture class. I began a metal fabrication class this semester, and have been learning TIG, Oxy/Acet, Plasma Cutting, and forging. Since this semester I've been making a lot of sculpture work with clay and steel structure/armature and can't get enough. I've gotten quite a bit of time working with the MIG over the past year, and have just recently started focusing as much time as I can on the TIG.
