  1. I will put up some picture's of the dies later today.
  2. I made two sets of dies quite a few years ago for doing tree bark texturing and finally got around to attaching some flat bar to make spring fullers for them. The dies worked pretty good under the treadle hammer I just completed a few weeks ago. Completed one project so far have enclosed a couple pictures of it.
  3. Got a 2" X 48" Kalamazoo belt sander, should be a great addition to the shop.
  4. Trip....Just read in a newsletter about the Oklahoma group (SCABA) is planning a tire hammer building workshop to be led by Clay Spencer. Contact information is Jim and his e-mail blacksmithingone@gmail.com put power hammer workshop in the subject line... Not sure if this is what you're looking for???
  5. Jim. Nicely done on your tooling for the Treadle hammer. I'm not quite sure what the projects will be on the treadle hammer? Thanks & Happy Hammering
  6. Recently finished Treadle Hammer(Clay Spencer type in line) wondering what your favorite tool or most used tool for the Treadle Hammer. Made a hot cut, have quite a few tools to use on the anvil but they seldom work good in a Treadle Hammer.. Our most of your tools handheld?? Or do you have them in the "hardy cut out"in the Treadle Hammer?? And I realize a lot of tooling depends what type of forging you doing. Pictures if you got them?
  7. Time to sell some anvils.. Couple of them 300 pound class. I know they need to go by truck freight but how do you go about getting a reasonable price for shipping??? You that have shipped this way, approximately cost?? Sold some on eBay but they were under 150 pounds so they could go UPS freight and I believe UPS limits the 150 pounds for their freight, at least they used too. I know I have to put them on a pallet and in my case taken to the shippers terminal .which I can do.. Trying to sort out which trucking firm to use?? Thanks in advance for your help...
  8. Hans.. The middle one you're talking about, it's pretty easy to do, it's twisted angle iron and I believe this is three-quarter inch angle. When you twist angle iron the middle is hollow in this particular size of angle iron, 3/8" round stock fits fairly snug. Peen over the end of the 3/8 so it can slide off.. You could upset in front of the twist so it doesn't move forward..
  9. Here's a few varieties of some handles I will be demonstrating in a couple weeks. They're fun to make. And I do forge weld the shafts to them(the spiral one is not forge welding to a shaft). The variations of these handles are numerous.. Up to one's imagination what you can come up with...
  10. Completed my treadle hammer.. Was a great project.. I saw many demonstrators use them over the years and knew they would be a great tool to have. Got one now.. Need to make tooling now for it.. Be all set.. The base anvil is 5 3/4" solid round stock 36 inches tall.. Top anvil 2 3/4" in diameter. Got the plans from ABANA.(Clay Spencer style). I did change it a little bit on the top tube support.. Made it more of a truss by welding a flat bars in between the square tubing..
  11. I did two things to correct the problem.. One as I said earlier,, bolted the adjustable turnbuckle on the bottom of the treadle assembly. Which shorten it a 1 1/2" and used longer eyebolts to anchor the coil springs to.. Works perfect now!!!!! First project smashed a pop can..lol.. Will post a picture of the finished project probably tomorrow
  12. Just found an error. Bolted anchor point for the adjustable link each on the top of the treadle foot assembly.. Should be on the bottom... Will make it an 1-1/2" shorter by doing that.. I'll see if that helps ???? Still welcome any comments???
  13. Just finished building a treadle hammer, in-line(roll blade wheels) Clay Spencer design.the plans were purchased from ABANA. The last piece I assembled was a adjustable turnbuckle assembling. Upon operating the treadle hammer it appears to me that the turnbuckle assembly is too long??? Having the turnbuckle assembly at the shortest point and the foot treadle touching the floor there is 7 inches between top and bottom anvil. Rechecked measurements .. Swivel, anchor points and linked arms , found no drastic errors,, maybe 1/16th or 1/8th on one or two measurements. Also another thing that makes me think that turnbuckle linkages to long, returns up and hits the top assembly with considerable force if you let it "freewheel" to the top position The copyright date on my plan since 1998. Any comments or recommendations much appreciated.. Thanks in advance
