  1. I scored a bucket of balls from a ball mill. They weren't forged,, I just drilled a hole through it slipped it on,,, kind of disappointing huh
  2. Got a couple of canisters ready to go,,, full of chainsaw chain,,,,
  3. Because I think my middle child is a princess I made her a scepter,,,,, The basket weave was a first for me and I tried a dragon's tail, also a first..
  4. She's a Beauty I'm so envious. What does something like that cost if you don't mind saying
  5. Yes I would definitely avoid the lumps in the kitty litter LOL. So rumor has it you don't need flux because there's so little scale built up with a gas forge,,,, what's your thought on that,,,, sales pitch or truth?
  6. Here's a quote from Chile Forge webpage warning about the dangers of corrosion from using flux. " Forge accessories Replaceable Ceramic Shelves If you have done forge-welding, we don't need to explain the corrosive nature of flux. To those who are considering trying, a word of warning: Flux can ruin a forge floor in a single session. It is nearly impossible to get off once it's in your forge and it will stick to everything it comes into contact with." I've never seen anybody be careful about using flux in their gas forges what say you?
  7. Here's my latest Project. Trying to get close to the Doug Marcaida inspired knife seen on forged in fire,,, although instead of a thru tang, I went with a full-tang
  8. That's a nice blade! Thanks for posting. Brazing maybe a good solution, but it raises yet another question for me. I can't fit the guard until the knife is at its final dimensions. I always Forge a blank and then go to the grinder and take it down close to final shape while it is soft. But not all the way to finished dimensions, because I thought it was unwise to heat treat a finished blade in the Forge because it was too thin. Have I got that wrong?
  9. But No ,,,,, if someone were to ask me politely where I was from I would make the decision to share that information on an individual basis. I understand knowing where I'm at might help others trying to help me, that will be determined at that time, and shared via private message. I'm not like most people willing to give out personal information freely on the world web. You haven't figured it out you don't know who's watching and keeping track of things. My family's security precludes the world knowing any more than it needs,,,,, big tech and Mark Zuckerberg are not your friends. Good day sir.
  10. I have plenty of decent stock I was just asking how to use the scraps,,,,,,, thanks for all your help.....
  11. Once this knife is finished it will probably just hang on the wall in my collection. I don't do a lot of ninja fighting here on the West Coast. That said I want it to be a sturdy knife in case somebody did you use it for some reason. It's not an original design I'm trying to simulate the knife shown here below,,,,,,, although the knife in the example appears to be a hidden ratail Tang I wanted to go Full Tang. Just to make things harder for me I guess LOL Thanks for your help and I guess I'll look at how to solder brass that's why I like forging I have a lot to learn keeps me busy.
  12. I've forged a knife blank, full tang, that I want to install a brass finger guard on. Both the blade and the butt-end are too big for it to slip over and then fit correctly. So do I do a two-piece guard, a slotted guard, or what other options do I have? I thought about changing the material too soft steel and then welding it after putting it on. But I really want to go with brass for artistic reasons. So if I use brass I thought about making a two-piece guard slip the top piece on, then the bottom piece and then rivet them together. Or comment welcome thanks Happy New Year
  13. Well that answers that,,, thank you guys Happy New Year
  14. That looks very nice well done
  15. Pretty new to forging having fun making knives. I have a few scraps of cast-iron but I don't know what to do with. Can I do a sanmi or what do you suggest? Thanks and Happy New Year XXX
  16. Thanks for all the help you guys Happy New Year and happy forging
  17. Hello everybody. All the work looks really good you've got my interest up for doing my first basket weave. I won't try this challenge until I do a couple of them but I had a question first. I want to make a birthday present for my daughter that consists of a basket weave with a ball inside. Can somebody tell me how to get the ball in there? I have a stone ball about an inch and a half diameter, close to a handball actually. Not sure how big a basket I'll have to make to insert it into don't mean to change the subject here on this thread just need a little advice, maybe a private message so we don't get off topic.
  18. Thanks for the kind words,,,,, Your bottle openers are sweet!
  19. these are all first-time attempts at these projects Santa's been busy Merry Christmas everyone
  20. If a forge has a set of doors and exhaust from the factory, then I would assume it's built to be used in a closed door fashion. Just want everyone that doesn't have those features to be aware of the danger of blocking the openings off
  21. This is a quote from their website "If I add doors to the forge will it get hotter? No. Adding doors to these forges is dangerous. Closing the openings can introduce unburned propane into the forge chamber, which under certain conditions may explode. The forge openings give the spent exhaust gasses, which expand 7x during combustion, an escape path." if this is true then it shouldn't just apply to chili forges. All gas forges should be warning people against this. But you see it done all the time even on the famous forged in fire show. In search of the truth
