  1. We have the rest of the wheels and variable speed! Need an enclosure for the vfd but otherwise it’s good to go!
  2. Well good thing I’m not a knife maker! Won’t have to worry about losing my fingers! Haha. I hadn’t gotten around to it. It all needs to be taken apart for the rest of the painting still so I’ll make sure it’s the proper way on the final assembly
  3. It’s starting to actually look like something!
  4. Got the gas strut on there. Waiting on parts now. I’ve been informed the strut should go upside down to prevent things from getting on the shaft and messing up the seal. But otherwise it works great. Very smooth to use.
  5. Thanks. Hopefully it works well. Ordered the motor, wheels, and vfd today
  6. Thanks! Yea it’s gotten a bit long. I’ve considered making another one but there are some really long discussions here so it’s fine probably. It’s for me to look back on if nothing else.
  7. Thanks. Yea it’s full brass pins I peened over. Than ground flat
  8. Ages ago when I made knives someone asked for one. So I finally got around to doing it. I remember why I quit making them though haha. It’s 1095 with wrought iron jacket. The parts where iron reaches the edge have thin enough iron that it won’t affect it once sharpened
  9. Decided it’s finally time to replace my 2x48 belt grinder with a 2x72. So far I’ve got the frame welded to the base and the tooling arms cut. The plate is 1/2” thick and the body is 2x2 inch 1/4” thick tube. The tooling arms are 1.5 inch solid square bar. The tensioning arm which is made of 1.5” square bar is drilled to attach to the frame but needs a handle and the tracking attachment to be bolted on still. I now need to order the motor, wheels, and the vfd. And a gas strut to apply tension. The welds aren’t pretty but they should hold fine.
  10. I found all the important dimensions are listed. Everything that’s not can be moved around a bit. The video series has details not listed in the plans. Like the top links. They are standard length category one. The spring I used was just from a a 1000 lb trailer spring stack
  11. There’s about a million styles to make! I want to make more just to have a reason to experiment with twisting things
  12. Made a chipping hammer. Handle is mild steel and the head is 4140. Handle is hammered down a bit to take of points so that it’s comfortable to hold. Sitting on the 8” leg vise. Which I still have yet to mount haha
  13. My other one has the tip fall off so here’s the replacement hammer eye punch. Should work decently. Although it’s not super pretty
  14. There are enough vises around here For cheap enough that it wouldn’t be too hard to at least make my money back for gas. If not some for buying stuff. Guess I better start collecting!
  15. yea almost positive it’s a repair But you have to look hard for it. One of the better repairs I’ve seen and it works fantastic. Not fine thread screw like many replacements. So I’m not worried. Especially for the price of this monster That’s what I’ve started thinking about. Buying and reselling vises at a blacksmithing event like quad state.
  16. Yup, Once it stops turning without taking too much effort its done. Can’t wait to get this one into use
  17. Yep! It’s going to be put to work! first thing I’m going to do with it is twist one 1/4” bar stock haha. Than onto real work. I thought the 6.5” was big haha Turns out the threads were replaced. Probably with a screw jack as you said Chelonian. However they used all the original parts it looks like. They just brazed the threads into the original screw box. Looks like they cut the old threads out and trimmed down the nut from the vise on a lathe so they fit inside each other nicely. So it’s not original I guess but the repair is very nicely done. It works fantastic and looks normal still so I’m not too bothered
  18. Heavy enough for anything I intend to do haha! Possibly. The screw box hasn’t been welded or brazed it appears to be all original. but you never know. Works good and has a proper style acme thread for a leg vise so I’m not too concerned if it is a replacement
  19. I can’t find any markings. Any ideas on maker? It’s different than any other I’ve seen
