  1. You're a hoot, Frosty. I only run my forge between 1 and 2 psi, so don't think I'd could use up 100# in a day!
  2. That's funny, Thomas. Actually, I was tempted to tell him to cut it off at a proper anvil height and build his shop around a truly "buried" anvil stump.
  3. When setting up my new gasser, I used up one partial and one full bottle of propane from my camping trailer . Filled those back up and put'em back on my trailer and filled my new 100# tank. Trying to learn how to make tongs today and hit the bottom of my first 100# tank. I'm sure that's nothing for most of you, but it was a "milestone" for me. All I can say is I sure hope I soon become skilled enough to accomplish a heck of a lot more while using my second tank! So it's off to the propane filling station.
  4. Interesting. Never heard that term in my lifetime. Upon trying it, I can't say I'm at that stage..................................yet.
  5. What is a "five--head", Billy?
  6. I spent 13 years as a facilitator for a grief recovery group and have dealt with several parents in the lonely "boat". It's horrible to have to deal with...............and some just don't!!!!!!
  7. That's a parent's worst nightmare, Thomas.
  8. Hooked up to their Internet 2 months ago and dumped AT&T for landline and Internet. Was paying AT&T $165/month for those two services. Now have OEC Internet for $50 a month. Went to OEC Fiber Television yesterday and dumped AT&T's DTV. Just need to get rid of OG&E.
  9. Well not every having used a flatter, I never thought about the "floating" part of the design. So I just took my new "flatter" and tried it on my RR track anvil. Didn't take but a few blows to figure out exactly what you folks meant about it having to be absolutely flat on the surface of "whatever" to keep from shocking your wrist. Didn't think that one out because I had no experience to reference from. Leaned something new. I'll have to be super careful to make sure it's flat with the surface of whatever I'm trying to flatten. Guess making a true flatter is in my future somehow. I've watched Jennifer's video a hundred times..............guess I'll have to watch it some more, huh?!?!?!
  10. I've been begging for OEC for the past 21 years I've lived here. OG&E refuses to let us change over. There are only 11 of us on this branch. No reason they can't let us go. The folks right across the road all have OEC. I was without electricity for 9 days after the '06 ice storm and the folks across the street had electricity the entire time. When I first moved here in '99, I soon realized a generator was on my list of "must haves". Just didn't have the funds. Took my late wife to Houston for a weeks worth of treatments and when we drove into the driveway the garage door wouldn't open...............yup, no electricity. Turns out we lost it the day we boarded the plane to head down there. Everything in the refrigerator was ruined...............as was the refrigerator. Of course, that's when I borrowed the money for a small generator and a new refrigerator. (Sure wish I could win the lottery.............I'd install an automatic 20,00KW permanent generator that would kick on the minute OG&E decided to take a holiday.) I bought another generator when I started camping in my little trailer, so we run two-2000watt generators when camping off-grid. (gotta have my air-conditioning!)
  11. OG&E, Don. We lose electricity almost more than having a windy day in Norman. I get sick of it. I lost my electricity more in the first year I lived here than in all other places I've lived in my lifetime. Gets to be a real pain in the.....................well, you know.
  12. Yeah, I'm sure it'll work okay until I acquire something more appropriate. Just like some people start out with anvil substitutes before they can acquire an anvil.
  13. It would be great to have a "real" flatter, Jennifer. But I've not the funds to buy one or skills to make one. Frosty made the suggestion and I thought "why not?" So this will have to be my flatter until I find the funds or the skills. Frankly, I'm not sure with the direction I'm going that I'll have a whole lot of use for a flatter anyway. We'll see. If it doesn't work out, at least I learned how to do a nice twist, I think.
  14. Okay. I know little, so have lots to learn. Guess I'll find out if it hold up to hammering. Thanks for the info folks.
  15. I took it to a welder and had it welded on. He preheated it and the weld is deep. Sorry, you lost me, what is "the HAZ"?
  16. Curiosity has the best of me CGL, what concerns you about the handle?
  17. Nope, Frosty, have nothing to try it on yet. Thanks for the tip. But think I'll leave one side sharp and the other rounded so I have an option. Opinion? bobasaurus, that is an absolutely beautiful shoe horn. I'm sure your Dad will really like it.
  18. I've always enjoyed visiting re-enactment villages when traveling. Yours looks pretty neat.
  19. Enjoying this thread..............but didn't know it existed until just this morning.
  20. Per your suggestion, Frosty, here's my new Flatter. Half inch thick plate, 4"x4" with a twisted handle made from garage door spring.
  21. Sorry I didn't answer sooner, Thomas. We lost electricity at 4:15 today.................you know how backwards Oklahoma is! Just now came back on! Anyway, you just come on any time. You're welcome at my anvil and welcome in my home.................and yep, we can stay 6' apart. Just to make Fauchi happy.
  22. I'm makin' a pair of "tongue tongs" right now. Might as well do the job myself and save you the trip, Thomas.
  23. No doubt, Thomas. Prayers are with you and your family.
