Yall are great. Just picked up a few old crowbars I was planning to make my first set of punches, chisels and splitters from. This is perfect timing.

There are a few of us on the forum who have posted our thoughts and experiences both good and bad with Kanca anvils. One of the retailers will ship anvils under 150 pounds inside the US for less than $20. My 110 pound Kanca cost less new than a comparable used anvil of similar size in my area. 

Definatly take the time to put in the research. This is a tool that with proper care will last not just a lifetime, but several.

My forge is a devil forge. I found that the coating that comes with is really in line with the cost of the forge (kinda cheap). A layer of Kast-o-lite is probably I good idea for longevity. 

Yeah. Mid 90s and up with at least 75% humidity for at least a month now. Though this last week has been torrential downpours so even worse. 

I have a humidifier, it's called being in Florida. Lol. 

I just went to tractor supply and got some big hose clamps and daisy chained them. That way when they get loose I just screw them down a bit more.

Awsome. Chris thank you for that feedback. Luckily a bandsaw was a missing element from my woodshop so quite happy to have that element. Good to know that it's just not a worth while effort to convert it. Be a shame to end up with no bandsaw at all.

With it being belt driven, would I be able to change out the step pulley for a slower speed. Mind you I'm quite happy having a bandsaw for wood. Just wondering if there would be ways to modify it for both. With the open body im not even opposed to switching the motor out to something variable speed.

That's what I thought. Pritchel hole and everything. My 12yo is down for the summer and i thought I'd mount it for his height as a starter anvil. Hes been excited to try his hand at smithing. Worse case if he doesn't get into it I figure I'll cut the webbing and make it into a nice slender hardy bick.

And when I asked him what he wanted and said go ahead and take it.

It does.  Runs well. The blades it has are for wood. 

Added a bandsaw to the shop. A garage sale where I wish I had had more money a trailer and an empty shop. 

The guy was nice enough to throw in the little railroad anvil for me to give to my twelve year old to forge on when he comes down for the summer.

Rocket. I'm up in Dixie county. Before I decided to buy a new Kanca I had been watching the area. With the forge included that seems very reasonable for the area. Assuming that the anvil doesn't have any major flaws. Awsome to see more FL Smith's starting up. Makes me glad I won't be in a generation alone learning.

My vote would be both.

In my part of FL, Fishers in far worse shape are listing for twice as much. Congratulations,  may she serve you and yours for generations. 

Good to know. I have a pickax head in my misc steel from around the property pile.

I didnt even think of hammers. May try a dog head hammer. Was gonna use the tapered end to make a hammer eye drift. But even with that and the hot cut there's a lot of steel left. I didnt realize they were as large as they are.

Early Father's Day present from my local big orange box's tool rental counter. Was with the boys teaching my 7 year old what different tools were. Asked if he had any busted ones. Turns out they had just tossed them. After explaining why I was looking he found this partially used one and gave it to me. 

Hot cut hardy and several other tools here I come.

They are two pieces of all thread. It's not visible in that pic but the other end has a locknut. I'm going to tighten the lock nuts on further then cut the ends down. 

The end facing front has wingnuts so I can remove the anvil and take it inside when I'm not using it.

With the spiders and snakes out here we have the house up on pylons. Keep some of the crawlers out.

Oh believe me they arnt just dodgy looking. Lol. They are temporary till I get the front deck built. My little tiny house is definatly a work in progress to be sure. 

Finished figuring out my anvil mount system. Wanted something that would hold it secure but allow it to be brought inside when not being used.
