  1. Hello, all! I’ve been lurking for a while, and getting lots of great information. Thanks for sponsoring and contributing. I have a nice shop on an acreage where we’ve lived about 20 yrs. A lot of the tools came from my grandfather’s trucking shop, including welding equipment from the 40’s, and a stump “mounted” 160# Vulcan anvil, that I learned very basic metal working skills on. Now that I’m easing out of my 60’s and have more spare time I’ve decided to try a bit of smithing. I’ve only ever used the anvil for straightening bent up equipment pieces, and there was some light fabrication in the old shop. It’s in good shape. I’ve recently acquired a beast of a 6” post vise, an old Champion rivet forge, and a couple of blowers. Been occupied rejuvenating them. Just got the forge mounted blower working. First job for the forge will be heating the vise mounting bracket to straighten where a previous owner used heat and bolts to secure the vise instead of wedges. Second job: make new wedges. Then on to forging tools, with the ultimate goal of making architectural pieces. I’ll be posting a few questions and looking for advice, so I thought I’d introduce myself. Thanks again for a great site!
