    ok thats really cool. I would make the pit a bit larger, for working with larger items. Thanks JHCC Ill look around this weekend at my local scrap yard. see if i can find a suitable piece of metal

    i have looked into improvised anvils, but have not been able to find a suitable peice of steel. and what is a jabod forge?

    lucky! im hoping to get an anvil sooner rather than later, as i have to drive nearly an hour to the neaarest forge.

    awesome. do you know how to read the hundredweight marking on older anvils? this would be a good skill to fgure out the poundage

    I am a youth (under 18) so ill have to talk to my parents. but this seems like a good idea to improve my skill level and meet other smiths. yeah i have.

    i did so. as i do not have my own forge/smithy, i smith at Long Branch Forge in Bowdinham, ME

    yes. 2 windows, one on the left wall, one on the back wall. i will have a vent on the right side, above the bench grinder, to help keep the air clean there from dust n stuff, and for cross venting

    as for the open air setup, i will have a sliding door, 7' tall x 5' wide. thats so i can have it open for ventilation, or to enjoy the bueatiful outdoors where i live.

    I am designing a shop. What is better for floor, concrete or gravel? I think gravel for drainage and vibration absorbtion.

    I have around ten railroad spikes in my garage, plus various other bits and pieces sitting in The Frame, my blacksmithing bag from LLBean. also, i have no clue what an acorn is, other than the seed of an oak tree.
