  1. @Daswulf Thnaks, and yea, i had heard they were going for $4-5/lb, so I thought $3/lb wasn't bad and they are getting harder to come by. It's in good shape and he'll be thrilled we got one. @Thomas Powers. No. He's in San Antonio, Texas. That's where the Air Force does their basic training. They don't have multiple "Forts" for basic like the Army does. He's finishing up there this week before shipping out to his next "adventure".
  2. My names Greg and as my screen name indicates, my profession is Land Surveyor. I live in S/W Alabama. My son and I have been flattening metal, sometimes in the resemblance of a knife or hooks, for about a year now. We have been using an old piece of RR rail that my son cut/ground into the rough shape of an anvil. This morning I purchased our first real anvil at an Estate Sale. It's a Hay Budden, approximately 85-125 #. (Haven't weighed it yet or found where it is marked. Research for later.) My son doesn't know about it yet. He's in San Antonio. He just finished Air Force BMT (basic training) and is waiting to go to his tech school. (It's in Pensacola so he'll be home on weekends as much as he can when he gets there.) Missed out on a post vise at the sale, so I'll have to keep my eyes open yet. Found this site researching anvils this morning trying to figure out what a good price was. Paid $300. Two other gentleman were there and had differences of opinion on whether that was a good price or not. Neither needed it so I picked it up. As it beats a piece of rail and it will let me and my son pound metal together, I thought it was a great price. Anyway, sorry for rambling. Looking forward to spending too much time on this site. Greg
