  1. The last picture and this picture are the best I can do they are both the same piece this picture just has the other half
  2. How about this piece? I am sure this is wrought right?? This is going in my next project
  3. Yes I saw the grains. But then I saw all the horizontal lines separating them and I noticed the grain was different in some of the sections. Initially I thought it was wrought iron because this was my first time with it but since I have found genuine wrought iron I have come to doubt what this Wagon Wheel is made of. Looks really Gray in the middle then above that very coarse grains and weird lines separating it. Whatever it is it Forge welds very nicely. And the Sparks are not forked and are more red than Orange. One thing I can tell you about this material is that it is incredibly strong I almost blew through a cut off wheel just cutting a piece out then whenever I cut part way through to attempt to break it I have to hang on it it is incredibly hard to break it or bend it . Looks like I stumbled onto some sort of primitive hybrid LOL. But the lines that make the layers of whatever this stuff is should become visible when ever I etch. But no matter what I do I can't bring it out. I must have etched the knife 20 times and sanded it off and started over. It was quite a learning experience as this is my first Forge Weld and attempt to etch.
  4. yes I will post another picture but I'm going to have to cut and break a new piece because I already made this piece into a San Mai blade using it as the outer jacket. Therein lies my real question why can I not bring out the grain with my etch? Anyway when I get a chance I will cut and break and post the result. In the meantime here is what I made with it.
  5. This is from a wagon wheel from the Old Homestead. I cut it halfway through and broke it it seems to have layers but they are all flat and in the same direction I was wondering if this was wrought iron or more like muck bar or what it is I have here exactly? Thanks in advance for any answers.
