  1. The reason I thought it might be a modified former cleat was finding cleats like this one on google, I wish I had more info or pics but my friend has not decided if he wanted to buy this thing or not, we both have plenty of real anvils and hes not sure if he wants it just because its odd lol.
  2. Yea thats what I said, but the bolts seem kinda small for something intended to hold a lot of force... though some mooring cleats would have a lower portion set into the concrete so these bolt holes may have been added just as the "horn" was modded~
  3. Hahah thanks Stew, at first glance I thought it was a mooring cleat but thats not right.. its around 100# or more, was found in a barn, I was thinking tin smith or something I duno..
  4. Heya Jaredland, welcome to IFI we have a bladesmith section that might get more hits/replies also if you get a chance add your location to your profile and you might be able to find someone in your area that can help in person~
  5. Bah I think we should all lighten up on the guy, sure a lot of us are bogged down with laws and regulations and while its all good advice, I think he gets the point. Good on ya bud for your goal and as a bonus you just learned what not to say on this particular forum lol! +1 Tom
  6. First pics look like a Soderfores 350# that I have used I know they all look alike when its a big square chunk but oh well
  7. Translation of the first video posts and title its Polish btw sorry I just type I dont speak it~ Title: Hammer on smithy geshuv some video replies Damage from anvil they have not set up (have not found) hahahahaha Such " professional " most distinctly not potrzeba:D Company ltd. as hammers hehe Tragedia... dont think I need to translate that one. oh and my reply to the video. Odurzony = stupid, if anyone was wondering.
  8. I have seen this done on a number of farrier used anvils. Mostly the slot will run across the face not along the middle of it, but added to make it easier to pritchel nail holes in shoes with one or more clips drawn that can prevent you from aligning with the pritchel hole.
  9. Thanks again all, Dad loved it! had to run around the house thanksgiving showing every relative he could find lol! He has some bait reps coming by and its going to see if they want to buy any for display pieces could be fun!
  10. Whats with the 3 5 6 on different parts? a built in step guide? is there a 1 2 4 somewhere it?
  11. Hey thanks, I did my best to find that sweetspot Ill have to check again based on your method, my main worry was keeping it moving without hitting itself and I have two parts I can adjust to make that happen.
  12. Thanks all, I think I need to make a little wooden stand for it with some sort of name plate like "Biggun" or something heheh
  13. So my fathers birthday is thanksgiving. He retired after 28 years of Louisville PD to craft fishing lures and now sells to prowler and other distributors. I never have any clue what to give as a gift so I thought I would do a tribute to his craft with my own. Doing the barb on the hook I thought would be no problem just form it like I would a fire poker... a lot different when you do it 1/8" thick, so this was barb 3 or rather the barb that didnt break or burn off.
  14. random thought when you mentioned the cam's going different directions, could it maybe be used to clamp a plow?
  15. My local roofing supply sells if I remember right a 8' or 10' sheet 30inches or so wide for about $80 maybe 18 gauge
  16. Looks good and clean nice find! I want an old stake anvil for shows VURY badly would like to build a nice viking setup too!
  17. Man my eyes can get much bigger, dem's some nice pieces! Maybe Ill have some fun money by the time they reach US soil!
  18. Try http://imageshack.us/ to upload, I've mentioned them before and use the site simply because how easy it is. You're not required to make an account to upload but if you take the 2 minutes to do so you can get a direct link to the images and add that to your post with the image button on the reply/post window, Also they allow you to upload more than on file at a time and that is always handy~
  19. Brilliantly simple concept I never thought about, thanks for the +1 wisdom
  20. Well I think the issue here was a number of things adding up to the catastrophic failure. The hammer is VERY old and the former owners ( who knows which one) paint job covers possible weak points. When I set things up and adjusted the stroke I noted a number of different past settings that caused the hammer to rub or strike itself slightly causing stress points and possible fractures in the arms but I think in the end it was just miss treated and hacked back together just like the poorly welded I-beam framework its mounted on. As for uploading pics 40meg is huge! but maybe you meant was kb? I think that hints at what the problem could be is a simple code error in allowed file sizes on the storage drive or a corrupt line of code in the save directory just a guess~
  21. Imageshack is a free image hosting site used them for years, the forum upload still wont work for me either so I use the image button and add the "direct link" from the shack
  22. looks like it was sat on end on a hot plate enough to heat it but not burn off the coating
  23. Thanks Grant, agreed peacock I have the stock cut and waiting for tomorrow, its an old piece so I know it could happen at any time.
  24. All fixed up and working good, only had 3/4" stock but I would rather go larger than smaller.
