  1. Ahh a bit out of range for me lol, I built a booth in Ky and rebuilt the ORF booth neither of them mine but they were fun to work. Old West Fest is the only building I can call my own ( well with my business partner for that show ) I do love the shows
  2. Agree with Smothbore, Mule Shoes, the heels of some mules and mostly donkeys are not built the same as horses and can be canted outward sometimes to a point. Drafts because of the build of the hind end will twist the hind feet as it impels forward but not so much on other breeds and would not be as needed on whatever wore these. Also I've seen more shapes and designs of shoes that you would ever imagine to have been on an animal but thats just how the business goes
  3. 5am and I been drinking... not sure that sober would be much better
  4. Agree with Phil here, they were made to be hard so they could penetrate into very hard mediums without bending so they would have a much higher carbon content then a basic nail
  5. I love the crazy organic feel these have nice! Also my photos will upload at almost any size on the simple or old uploader again I've not been looking at my file size~
  6. around 900ºc or 1650ºf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_fume_fever
  7. Thanks all I appreciate the support! I do the fast versions for my friends with short attention spans that like to see the work but cannot sit still long enough to watch ;) Still doing an edit on the hinge video, not sure I had the battery to catch it all, but this is the 90% finished product to match with the braces Hope to see them on the clients new chest soon, then to build my own hah!
  8. Thanks Beth! Its just a random thought but so many of use use a right handed left horn stile that our old and passed down anvils are formed to this position. I bought at auction what I called a left handed anvil because the horn was soooo worn out on the far side to me or the near side to a lefty! I think for me turning a shoe would require more movement on a lefty, instead of moving my arm a bit to the left I would need to take a full step to the right to us the horn, a point that an innovative ( or lazy hahah ) Farrier made when he cut off his horn welded it back on at a 45º angle so he could make just a small twist to align himself to the horn. I think those anvils are still marketed today odd as they may look.
  9. Larry, even thinking about my horn on the right makes my brain hurt! lol I gotta ask though to anyone that lost a finger to the hotcut.. why was your hand over the anvil where your hammer head should be? In what position do you need to be in to make that happen I cant seem to work it out in my head.. just like the video the only time my had is over the anvil is when I'm working an edge and even then my elbow would be the closest thing to the heel.. I'm so confused. I do understand people do stupid things some times ( the same ones that ask if thats real fire ) so oh well :P
  10. And some only learn by doing so to you future 9 fingered smiths, Glenn told you so! Thanks Sam!
  11. hard to notice in the video but its a 340# trenton so that cut is about 18"+ away from where Im working, also I just finished some arrowheads and forgot to take it out lol
  12. friends on facebook got a kick out of my new vid figured i would share it here too
  13. I dont have the links on hand but Im sure another member does, there are numerous videos of old chain makers in action Im sure someone can post
  14. I'm a bit partial to the skull punch myself, this skull is one I made to stamp my horseshoes with at school.. though someone called it a ghost from pac man lol I moved to the horseshoe after then to the xpeen hammer profile for most of my current work with a new design in my head that I hope to get into steel soon. Good work on the head and bone, I didnt have room on horseshoes for the full jolly roger with the tools I had at the time.
  15. Thats one of the reason my friend didnt pick it up, the seller didnt have much info for him other than the pic, just not worth the time when we have plenty of real nice anvils lol but if it was some rare "something" he or myself would have purchased
  16. heh take anything a guy says at auction with a grain of salt
  17. One better, this is an archive link to the free volumes of SA http://www.archive.o...rican-1845-1909 this is a link directly to the issue http://www.archive.o...ican-1895-09-21 MUCH higher quality and detailed demo on page 183 I love that they mention to work you "toughest swedish iron" at a dull red to make it sure it wont crumble on you later, oh and to keep the parts from sticking when you flatten them, just rub some lead all over the piece...
  18. Kentucky Blacksmith on facebook posted a link to Iron Rose for Norway facebook page, this was in the photo gallery:
  19. I want to say trenton from the shape, close at least but that flat base throws me
  20. Look I wont turn this into a personal attack or some kinda flame war, my comment was about the G rating this place uses, and that's fine I just don't use it as much no big thing. As for who gets what info, people will find it if they look, to single this guy out more than once because he was honest for foolish enough to list his (maybe) real age and make it view-able is laughable, no one has any idea how many under age members we have that do not list a real name/age and they get any info they request hahah its a joke! this is my last comment on the subject.
  21. ROFL WHAT>!?!? of all the xbow hunters I know None of them are handicapped where are you getting this info? I understand this forum likes to play like sesame street and is one of the reasons I tend to go elsewhere these days, but man what people do in there own home or under there parents roof for that matter is the problem of the parents, if they dont get smart info here they can get bad info elsewhere trying to police the internet is a joke. http://www.huntersfriend.com/crossbows/crossbow-state-regulations.htm For anyone wondering.
  22. The feet, depression and horn look a bit like my 194# soder so it could be, if I remember correctly they didn't always mark them for whatever reason, and when they did they used a few different logos and emblems mine has the the words but no shield/coat of arms I have seen a number of different stamps on them.
  23. Its not a fisher or soderfors and those are the only sawyers I know by looking at
