  1. That looks great, man! I'm wishing I had a house instead of an apartment with this newfound hobby.
  2. Hello everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself: I'm Joe and I live in Orange County, CA. I took a blacksmithing class at a local museum nearby and absolutely fell in love. I had to wait a couple of months before I was able to take the class (class size is small and it's done by vol's just one day a month) and I spent that time reading and watching You Tube videos getting stoked for the class. The project we made was a meat turner and, if you're interested, you can see the one I made here. I felt pretty good about it, though I should have taken more time at the forge to play around with it a bit since I finished it with some time left to burn. Now that I have taken the intro class I am able to attend the open forge every other Saturday where I'll be able to work on a lesson plan. Once I finish the first lesson plan I'm able to use the forge more weekends and will be able to work on my own projects so long as those don't require electricity. There is a second, more advanced lesson plan that I can complete after doing the first and if I complete that I'll be able to use the power hammers, welders, and all that jazz. Anyways, I signed up for this site to learn and I've spent a few hours on here already reading through various topics trying to come to a better understanding of lingo, etiquette, etc., as well as smithing skills. When I was growing up and in high school (I'm 35 now, just for reference) I wanted to be a welder and build bicycles as that was what I was in to. My dad made me go to college (I know, poor me, right?) and I ended up getting a MA degree and a desk job. Something has severely been lacking in my life these past 10 years I've been at a desk and I think that pounding hot metal with a hammer was the solution. I felt comfortable in the forge even though it was my first time in there, and I have to say that I haven't experienced the level of focus that was needed while working in there in ages. Anyways ,that's just a bit of background on me. Thanks for the site and all the info on here. I look forward to picking your collective brain in the near future.
