  1. so if I'm understanding a choke would be beneficial for what I want to do?
  2. Right now I'm just getting into forging so its a start. Mostly though eventually id like to get into making blades.
  3. So I'm looking at a couple gas forges. One has a choke, the other does not. They are both round body with burner at an angle on the side. What I'm wondering is does a choke make as much of a difference in performance as some say it does? Thanks for any advice, B
  4. hey david, nice looking shop. I don't know how much your looking to put into it but you could put down a type of crushed asphalt on top of the dirt to help with the dust. just an idea
  5. Thanks for the info Frosty on the UMBA. Jumped on the site real quick and found some neat stuff. Will def. be watching it.
  6. Thanks George. The nicest part was it was a local find just 15 min. up the road at a mom and pop antique store
  7. So I'm just starting to get my gear for blacksmithing and picked up this anvil two weeks ago. I feel I scored big on it. The antique shop I got this from didn't know what brand it was. If they would have taken some time to clean it I think they would have marked it higher. These pics are after about a good hour and half of cleaning "gunk" off of it. these are the markings I found. I'm just looking for any other info on it. Thanks in advance for any help, B. P.S. from research on here I do know the brand and weight
  8. Hey, I'm bryan and I am from Michigan. I'm just getting into blacksmithing. Just picked up my anvil two weeks ago and now looking and deciding on a forge setup. I've been on this site a lot since deciding to start blacksmithing. My father in law has done some smithing as a hobby so I have a small resource for knowledge. This summer him and I are planning on volunteering at a historic village in the blacksmith shop. So that's a quick inro and plan on seeing stuff soon. B.
