Excavations at Sheffield Castle
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to Scott NC's topic in Historical Ironwork
Haywire is a standard for me. As far as the bumping thing, as I understand it from warnings I've received on another forum, it is when you go into a post you made, say in tailgating and it doesn't get much traffic and you go in and post something like "bump" to move it to the top of the list to give the post more visibility. That is frowned upon. Also like Scott said if you go start a new thread and link another thread without posting something it's considered "bumping", but if you go into the other thread and add a post to it it's not bumping but reviving an old thread. Now I think I'm confused too. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -

A "bump" is a post or comment made by someone with the sole purpose of increasing the visibility of the primary message. Moving it to the top of the list. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -
I agree, it does send a sense of longing and loss. Good job. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

That looks interesting. I use Excel on a thumb drive, which I can plug into my phone, however everything has to be entered manually. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

Manyana is good enough for me. I have 2 very large oak trees, I had to take down that need limbing and cutting up into firewood, so our new internet can hit the satellite. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -

Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. If you are planning on selling it, list it here in the classified section. Be sure and read the classified rules before posting. Make sure you show a location for it. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -
Here is a very interesting article about the Celtic Torc which was supposed to have magic and healing powers. https://www.worldhistory.org/article/1687/ancient-celtic-torcs/ I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

I was thinking a tire bender, seeing as the blacksmith is making horse shoes, the shop would also do wagon & carriage repairs. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

Which way to grind
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to dickb's topic in Knife making Class General Class Discussion
Before getting a 2X72 belt grinder I used the large sandstone wet grinding wheel, seen here to the right of the Star power hammer. It did a very good job although taking longer to accomplish what I wanted. -
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. It may help with knowing where in the world you are located and what type of forge you are planning on building. I think the Japanese knife/sword makers do use some bamboo but turn it into charcoal for the forge. I have never used bamboo but have burned a lot of it, when I took out a large stand of it in our yard. I can tell you unless it is split it will pop rather loudly and throw sparks quite a ways. Left hand monkey wrench
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to BillyBones's topic in Tools, general discussion
I'm with Frosty. The first thing I bought was my 30 pound Star power hammer. When I bought it and restored it to working condition (poured Babbitt bearings) I thought I would only use it occasionally. Now a days there isn't a time when I fire up the forge that i don't also use the Star. On the I made it, I would say it's my hot cut hardy. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. There is an old saying that goes something like this. For a good blade you must win, first forge thick and then grind thin. So you have the last part down perfectly. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

F. J. Edwards (Besco Machinery) manual ironworker
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to fantom designs's topic in Shears
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I did a simple search and came up with a lot of hits for getting the manual. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ftsa&q=+manual+for+a+Besco+Truecut+shear+Model+585%3F+&ia=web -
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. It looks complete to me and Iron City should be the manufacturer. The size is indicated by the width of the jaws and yours looks like a 51/4 inch and in good condition. The screw box is missing the finial (end cap) which is common but won't hurt the operation of it. As far as what it is worth, that would depend upon where in the world you are located and the condition of the screw & screw box. http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=11525 I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. I would say because just the humidity in the air will turn it into a rock over time. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus -
Be still my heart, as a knife & sword collector, this one is like seeing a 400 pound pristine Colombian anvil, except it's sword envy. Wishing you a get well soon Jim we miss ya on the forum. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus

Söding und Halbach S&H Anvils
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks replied to Jakesshop's topic in Anvil Reviews by brand
Welcome from the Ozark Mountains. I wouldn't say they sound like a bell but more of a sharp ring, at least the one that I have used. I would love to own one but they are scarce in my area. I don't know if that is paint on yours, but I have heard a heavy coat of paint has a tendency to mute the ring some. I can't control the wind, all I can do is adjust my sail’s. Semper Paratus
