  1. Simplifying that formula would be (length * width * height + 2/3 x (length x width * height))/10, = (5/3 * (length * width * height)) * 1/10, = 1/10 * 5/3 * (length * width * height) = 1/6 * (length * width * height). So 1/6 * 1800 = 300. If a different fraction was added it would simplify down to being multiplied by a different fraction (1/2 would change it to 3/20 instead of 3/18 (=1/6) ).
  2. Mill balls as mentioned in many other threads like http://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/19122-steel-balls-pulverizing-mill/
  3. Well... I'm sixteen and worked last year and plan to work this year at a strawberry type farm and have helped a guy bale hay. Now starting to think about colleges as I want to do some type of engineering in the future.
  4. Change the shape a bit and with the parallel texture you will have a beech leaf.
  5. Just don't get into too big an altercation...
  6. What is that o shaped thing in the right of the third picture? Is it an or part of a number or a different letter?
  7. If you to put that location in your profile we will not forget like we probably will if it is only here in one thread. Looks good, where is the anvil?
  8. Yes, and a great idea to add those grooves around the wrenches to make it look like the wood is being crushed, whoever's it is.
  9. And of course get more forge time.
  10. I plan to replace 75 pushups every night ( I only missed two days... when I was out of country) with some type of leg exercises to try to jump higher (I'm five six -ish and want to be more competitive in the air with some of the other boys I play ultimate frisbee with). I know I don't need to, but I still want to.
  11. So does anyone care to share how they found out about or got involved with IFI? I had heard about it but forgot until I was trying to find information about getting my Canedy Otto forge blower back in working order, and found a thread about it here through a google search. From there I started reading it on and off for months, before I finally joined.
  12. I guess if that's the case those can stay in addition to the hot steel.
  13. It should be decorated with hot steel instead of lights or bulbs.
  14. Seems to be somewhat different from the proportions that I would have used (the blade seems a little wide for the length), but it looks pretty well done, though I think that 120 is still a bit coarse. So the title says it's your third knife, where are the first two so we can see progress?
  15. "Developing skill is like an investment that banks on time." --rockstar.esq
  16. Now ain't that the truth.
  17. I really like the trees, especially the effect some of them give of being in the wind.
  18. Well, last summer I was riding my bike home from the strawberry farm where I worked, and what should I find but a piece of Thomas Powers' "infamous carry-iron", to quote another thread. It was a 6 inch piece of 1/4 in. walled 2 1/2 square tube with two elongated holes (on opposite sides) that promptly went in my backpack. I don't have any pictures or know what it was from, but a spark test seemed to indicate low to medium carbon steel.
  19. Hang it both ways and see which looks better? I might tend to go with crooked, but that's just me.
  20. Good to have you. I'll tell you a couple things the others will tell you: add your location to your profile (just the general vicinity is fine) , and remember that we like pictures.
  21. I totally agree. That was fun to watch.
  22. I'm surprised Thomas didn't tell you this, but you might consider adding your location to your profile if you plan to do much on IFI in the future, as it can be helpful in answering some questions.
  23. I guess that I get to ask what the others will ask: can you post pictures? A quick Google search didn't seem to find it, maybe more looking will.
