  1. Nice work. I love the handle and the sheath blade is cool too.
  2. I use bravenet, they have a website wizard that makes it easy no typing in codes, just type in plain English and the wizard puts in the codes. Easy to post pictures etc they have a variety of page layouts also
  3. They look pretty shiny :) Beautiful work
  4. I don't think you need to get much better, that knife looks awesome to me.
  5. Wrought iron has little or no carbon, .326 would be a low carbon steel.
  6. Gun cold blue would give a nice dark finish.
  7. It looks like the words Pat Pend created a stress riser that caused the blade to brake, if you notice it broke right at the bottom of the stamped wording. The serrations for the thumb would also add to this. It is difficult to see any of the broken area from the photo's you posted, could you post one that shows both ends of the break end on.
  8. Our prayers are with you Rusty, May God lay his healing hand upon you. Woody & Jackie
  9. It has to belong to someone, if it don't belong to you and you take it, that is theft, take enough of it and it is grand theft. What is the closest active railroad, that would be a good place to start asking questions.
  10. I made my apron from buffalo hide, it has served me well for about 10 years, I wear it rough side out, not for any particular reason, just like it that way.
  11. our prayers are with you and your family, may you find peace and comfort. Eternal rest grant unto him O'Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace. Amen. Woody & Jackie
  12. Remember that the waste material no matter what process is used will be Hazardous Waste if it contains 5ppm lead or more. Disposal of the waste in the proper manner will be quite expensive it must be manifested and shipped to an approved disposal site. First you must have a labratory analysis of the material, then you must register as a generator of Hazardous Waste, depending on the amount of waste you will be a small quantity exempt generator, a small quantity generator, or a large quantity generator. Also remember that after shipment and disposal at the Hazardous Waste Treatment Storage and Disposal Facility, you still own the waste. If at some time in the future the Treatment Faclity needs to be cleaned up, you will be liable for part of the cleanup cost. There is no time limit on this, you own the liability forever. With the cost of analysis in the neighborhood of $500 or so for a TCLP analysis that will catch heavy metals like lead and the disposal fee plus transportation at that or more, I wouldn't touch the stuff with a 10 foot pair of Tongs. You can't haul the material to the disposal facility youself, it must be transported by a commercial carrier that is licensed to haul Hazardous Waste. If you decide to just dump it somewhere, the penalty if you are caught is a fine not to exceed 50 thousand dollars and or 5 years in jail. Plus you will still be liable for the clean up and disposal of what you dumped including any soil contaminated in the process. There is no statue of limitations on this, I have cleaned up messes that were 25 years old and the company that made them were responsible for the cleanup costs.
  13. Tie a goat to the anvil, let her throw out the goat and she will hardly notice the anvil.
  14. If it was cadmium like Mark said and you get over exposed to the fumes when you burn it off, you will pass out, when you wake up a few minutes later you will feel fine until you drop dead 12 to 24 hours later. You scratch and sniff chemists need to learn to ask first and act later when you have the proper information or as I have said before, take out a big life insurance policy and name me the beneficiary.
  15. The skin of the papaya is used for meat tenderizer, I recall that it was recommended to put meat tenderizer on some sort of insect sting or bite but I don't remember which one so I did a google search and found this for starts http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/2011/04/18/meat-tenderizer-for-stings/
  16. if it is some sort of plastic coating heating it or burning it off could produce vynal chloride gas, putting an unknown into hydrochloric acid could produce hydrogen chloride gas, acid reacting with metal can produce hydrogen gas. If it is not too much trouble could all you scratch and sniff chemists out there take out large life insurance policies in my name. Thanks in advance.
  17. I needed a hobby to spend all my money on and I couldn't afford drugs. :D Actually my grandfather was a Blacksmith for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Dickenson, ND he died before I was born but I had always been fascinated by the craft. started out makikng knives and sort of switch back and forth between knived and ornamental stuff. In his spare time my grandfather made cemetery crosses, his crosses have been found in over 20 cemeteries in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. And he is mentioned in the book Iron Spirits, about the blacksmiths who made crosses.
  18. Milk will cure your thirst, it won't cure metal fume fever, as for a thread for home remedies for blacksmiths, I would rather refer medical advice that is available on the web. http://www.aws.org/technical/facts/FACT-25.pdf you never ask a doctor for blacksmithing advice, why would you ask a blacksmith for medical advice.
  19. Paw Paw Wilson had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease from a lifetime of smoking, the zinc fumes only agrivated this condition. The COPD is what caused his death, any irritant to the respiratory system could have done the same thing. My wife Candy had COPD, a common cold was more than her system could stand and she died not from the cold but from the COPD aggrivated by the cold.
